Talking of suspensions Kevin, Platt is on four bookings already - another and he is suspended (Walker is on three too!).

 

It all depends upon what our non-playing outgoings are though. I know I'm preaching to the choir here @Dennis but if turnover is £8m and the costs outside of the first team are £5m then it only leaves us £3m, in that example, to spend on the first team. Unless we want to run at a loss which doesn't seem to be the plan.

 

Based on higher turnover now of £8m, but with added costs from utilities during that time, I'd expect the first team wage bill to be still around the £3m mark, maybe £0.2k higher. Just my estimate based on the information publicly available. And I'm not a trained accountant just as a disclaimer!

I’m not saying your right or wrong. As BiG has pointed out suspensions add up. So could be form, injury , sendings off and bookings. The latter two caused by buggering about with the ball and getting robbed and probably booked or sent off if he brings the man down.
He has not started off as well this term imho.

Well it has been acknowledged that last season we had a top six budget without a benefactor and even with the increase in expenditure in the league I don’t think there will be six teams spending more. The manager has been fully backed it’s clear to see only those with hidden agendas would say otherwise

 

Well yeah, he's definitely been backed in a steady, steady kinda way.

That should be enough for a top 6 finish again.

But the fact is, top 6 clearly isn't good enough for our fanbase, as we've collectively proven.

Mark Hughes needs to overachieve a top 3 finish regardless of the budget he's been given.

 

Not sure that is what Hughes wanted. It was Sparks that came out with the 'leaner and meaner' squad nonsense.

 

Most likely we had to knock an amount off the wage budget.

I mean, it's perfectly possible we've done that, and recent outgoings freed up what look like cheap loan options and inexpensive squad filler signings.

 

Spot on. Exactly what I said in the Mansfield thread. Tomlinson could be a good signing if he's the quick ball-playing CB needed to play three at the back properly. But, ultimately, goals win you matches and get you promoted, and this squad is crying out for another proven quality striker as cover/competition for Cook. If we fail to get promoted, it won't be because we've shipped too many goals, it'll be because we haven't scored sufficiently.

 

Every time Sparks speaks about the football side it comes back to bite him on the arse. You'd have thought he'd have learnt by now.

it’s three years since the present regime took charge and from a very low base where we were in a relegation fight since then we have been through covid. And without any money put in from above we are producing good budgets through good management. As I say Hughes has been well backed it’s time to repay that backing
