Think about what we COULD do. The wider landscape in leagues 1 and 2 will be blitzed. Fire sales everywhere, clubs cutting costs, loads of good players on the market who'll have to drop their wage demands because supply will exceed demand, massively.

We could completely reset this club. Get out there and build a quality side for probably half the cost it would normally take. Get in early and sell the club to good players who'll be panicking about where and when they'll get a contract. And then we'd be competing against clubs who're forced to be weaker than normal. For a club with vision and ambition, and some money behind them this is a massive opportunity. And if he had the balls and interest, with a bit of throw down cash, Rupp could genuinely grow the value of his asset over the next couple of years for when the game and economy bounces back.

Not a cat in hells chance of it happening though.

A regional league is a non starter. It’s pointless. City have 23 away games, half of those would be in a Northern section, the bus hire stays essentially the same for Walsall away as say Forest Green away. Maybe you’re saving on hotels at the three SW clubs and your Crawley and Colchester journeys So over a season you’re saving maybe five overnight stays. £100k ish over a season.

I imagine Doyle, Akpan, Riley, Devine, Anderson, Taylor, Henley, Patrick have taken well over half a million out of the club this season.

PL clubs spend well over £200m a season on largely unnecessary agents fees. They give £140m to the EFL the majority of which goes to the Championship.

Fleetwood are dependent on their owner putting millions in each year, Forest Green are, Salford are. Their owners gambling high wages on promotion means every other club is expected to, the agents say my man has been offered double that at Salford, pay up. If their owners’ other business fails, the football club does too.

That’s where lower league football’s problem is. High wages, irresponsible owners, the top division hoarding the cash and high spending on agents.

League One and Two’s travel costs are nothing compared to the wage bill. Saving half a dozen nights in a provincial Marriott is hardly going to save lower league football.

It might make fans happier and save them money not traveling to Plymouth on a Tuesday night, but there are better options for clubs.

For any clubs with a bit of wealth behind them, it'll be a buyers market like never before. Look at the amount of players who'll be on the market, the small number of clubs buying and the scarcity of money that will be kicking around. There'll be some rich pickings to be had and the divide between clubs even at our level, will grow. If ever there was a time to put some money into sparking development at the club, now would be the time. We could reset the club completely.

    Won't happen though.

I edited it and I'm sure you know why. It was simply blatant promotion of another site by you. The new title captures the issue adequately.

Club hasn't been pro-active since Parky in that respect and I don''t expect it to change either just like yourself.
We are re-active to just about every decision made from top to bottom in the club.

Over 800 players out of contract in the EFL come the end of June.
As we're in the Khazi league, we'll have plenty to choose from as and when next seasons starts.

just checked. The owner sold The club and his pension fund kept the ground.

    Sounds familiar.

We may not have any income. How many ST's have been sold? The club could be weeks from insolvency?

I've been trying to get people to grasp this. I believe our club, like many others, is in mortal danger. It all depends on whether Rupp is prepared to continue to fund us while we have no income. People aren't going to renew season tickets while the future is so uncertain and we may have no crowd until January. Meanwhile we have the ground rent, other overheads and players contracted for next season to pay.

Personally, I think we'll release every out of contract player we have. We won't sign anyone until we know what's happening next season, it'll be a rush job and next season will be worse than this.

Posted this eleaewhere many times and I am sure people are bored of it by now but my thoughts are to end this season now. Open the transfer window immediately and leave it open until a week before new season begins whenever that may be.
Transfer windows are a nightmare for clubs on a budget anyway and Imo should be scrapped for everyone outside the premier league but that’s another argument. They cause panic and over stretching to cover every what if scenario.

I agree, I think there'll be a reset on player wages and fees at all levels, at least for a couple of years.

I agree when it came to us in league 1, but in league 2 even with discounts nobody really gets close. If you half our season tickets sales but double the price that’s be around 6,000 paying £300. Nobody in this league gets close to them sales most average 2-3,000 and some are cheaper than £300. Then add in increased revenue in other areas and there is absolutely no excuse not to have the financial power to outspend everyone at this level by some way.

Actually just realised Julian Rhodes is at the club. Forget outspending anyone.

I do think we’re in a better position than most to get through this crisis at this level, but Rhodes is like the Tories of 2010. It’ll be austerity all the way. That said I think most at this level will be doing the same. Every club is propped up by a business man, what makes this crisis unique is it’s not something that just effects football finances. If it was rich business owners could prop the club up through success of their other business. However all sectors are going to be deeply effected unless you’re Andrex, will these business men be so will to prop clubs up when they’re losing loads of money in every area of their life? I doubt it.
