As speculated by a few on here, now in the Prem. Congratulations to the lad (he likes a tackle), hope it works out for him.

It makes you wonder what the top six recruitment departments do.
This lad has been Prem level for at least 2 seasons and completely outplayed and dominated the sainted Declan Rice in his second game at the level.
Forest have a bargain but he wont be there long when the overpaid directors of football at the top clubs finally do their due diligence.
    What a player!

I thought this was all connected to the mystery 8th man that we nearly signed on deadline day...but didn't because the O'brien deal fell through ...

Not sure if the rules have changed on development of players. We received money for Jordan Pickford when he went to Everton.

Zero shots in target in 90 minutes of a play of final and the home leg against Luton was similar.

Forest have done the PL a favour denying these hoof ball and set piece merchants a place in there.

Lewis O’Brien probably a bit underrated by us probably our best loan signing in recent years. He has joined a club who are making a concerted effort to establish themselves back in the Premiership with good signing and L B will help them do that

Clearly he could command a place in most Championship squads, but that option wasn't open to him:

"O’Brien’s options were limited to leagues playing a summer league after his planned move on loan from Blackburn Rovers fell through on transfer deadline day and Nottingham Forest deregistered him from their squad".

Going to the MLS on a temporary loan is undoubtedly better for him than just training with the kids and not playing games for the rest of the season. I'm sure he'll have no shortage of offers from Championship clubs for next season.

To be fair the MLS isn't the farmers league it used to be. It might still be somewhere European players go for a last payday but they are coming across younger than before, they are also attracting some decent quality youth from both South America and Europe and just look at how many players have come through the MLS to play in European leagues, often top leagues as well.

It's certainly on Par with the championship at this point. The one thing it maybe lacks is the physicality you get in all English football but he has worked his way through the English system so he doesn’t need that, more work on the technical side might actually be better for him than playing in the Championship

I know a few Huddersfield fans, they've been raving about him all season. Said they would struggle to keep hold of him. His first game in first team football was for us and straight away he look levels above Akpan and Wright. A genuine box to box midfielder who has goals in him.

Unfortunately, it's not quite as simple as that. As a loanee club and because of his age, we are certainly entitled to so called 'training compensation' for the 12 months whilst O'Brien was with us. How much is a different matter. If this was an international transfer or loan, FIFA has a formula to calculate how much is due. From memory, it's about €40k in this situation under the FIFA formula. Are you familiar with the Mark Stuart saga when we joined us and we had to pay £230k to his former Scottish club as their training compensation for his 6 or 7 years at Falkirk? Unfortunately FIFA allow domestic bodies to set their own rules for training compensation within their jurisdication. And our own FA simply leaves it to the three clubs involved to work it out between themselves or go to a tribunal! We received some money for Burke and for Pickford and hopefully if the Blades buy O'Brien, we'll get a few tens of thousands for him as well. Most clubs settle up in the same ball park as the FIFA formula. But it will rely partly on the goodwill of the Blades and Town to agree the final amount. I hope they'll be kind to us! :)
