    Lewis is a good Championship-level midfielder.

    Nottingham Forest are a money bags side signing international level talent with a scattergun approach.

    Not hard to see how he fell out of favour.

    They've signed 27 players this season.

    That easily rules him out of the first 25.

    Clearly he could command a place in most Championship squads, but that option wasn't open to him:

    "O’Brien’s options were limited to leagues playing a summer league after his planned move on loan from Blackburn Rovers fell through on transfer deadline day and Nottingham Forest deregistered him from their squad".

    Going to the MLS on a temporary loan is undoubtedly better for him than just training with the kids and not playing games for the rest of the season. I'm sure he'll have no shortage of offers from Championship clubs for next season.

    I didn't realise the deal with Blackburn had fallen through, as you say 5 months or so in the MLS will keep him fit until next season.

    To be fair the MLS isn't the farmers league it used to be. It might still be somewhere European players go for a last payday but they are coming across younger than before, they are also attracting some decent quality youth from both South America and Europe and just look at how many players have come through the MLS to play in European leagues, often top leagues as well.

    It's certainly on Par with the championship at this point. The one thing it maybe lacks is the physicality you get in all English football but he has worked his way through the English system so he doesn’t need that, more work on the technical side might actually be better for him than playing in the Championship

    I don't doubt your correct my point was more with regards a young lad wanting to showing himself off maybe in the ELF Championship rather than the MLS, as I posted I didn't realise a deal with Blackburn Rovers had fallen through.
