Jordan Gibson

I assume Jordan Gibson as it is a thread about him. He did once tweet that - about being done with everything, but it was some time ago. Lost Mackem must have trawled through his Twitter posts to find it.

 

As supporters we are fully aware of the impact of mental health. We've had a number of players and ex-players (some players that Sunderland fans should be aware of also) that have suffered so we are fully aware that it doesn't just impact a certain section of society. I've seen nothing but support for players in these cases.

With Gibson, I think any comments aimed in his direction have been intended for his benefit. He has ability but is incredibly raw so he does need that guidance. If Gibson, and indeed his family, are willing to share frustrations on social media then fans will respond. The move to Stevenage comes across as a realisation that he needs to put the hard yards in to succeed which is fantastic to see.

 

Whos to say he doesn't when he's tweeting stuff like that?

I've never heard of him in honesty. See above point. Someone tweeting about being done with everything just suggests to me that they have mental health problems.

I don't know the player, how he plays or who he's signing for. My post was only in relation to that tweet and some of the replies on this thread. Some of which are insinuating he acts like that (tweeting in that manner) regularly.

Just realised the thread was created way back in July 2018. The OP is what I'm referring to.

I'm not claiming to be an expert. However as I'm somebody who has dealt with mental health personally and deals with it day to day at work I do feel like I have a good knowledge of it.

How do you feel calling someone who is potentially suffering a "generation snowflake" or an "attention seeker" may help?

I don't understand why you're all being so defensive over it when all my post originally about was that people shouldn't shame people who are posting things like this and then I backed this up with a staggering stat. If it came out that the lad did have a mental health problem and (for example) did suffer from anxiety/depression I could guarentee people will flock to say that he should have gotten better support. Again, it's no wonder that men struggle to speak out and keep things bottled up.

 

Wasn't referring to you, don't get so defensive, have you persecution issues?
My comments were aimed at folk calling JG an attention seeker.

 

I apologise profusely if I am wrong and don't wish to lessen the gravity of mental health issues, but I am sure this tweet was discussed at the time and if I recall he was meaning "done being overlooked at City", not "everything" as in life.

 

@Lost Mackem, I think your suggestion that posters on here are being defensive because they are challenging your analysis of a player who has made a series of tweets that suggests he is frustrated with his in ability to maintain a 1st team place is way off the mark. I am fully aware of mental health issues, but I don’t assume that a player has MH issues with very little evidence displayed on social media. I would also suggest that if ppl feel ill with MH issues, then the very last place you should be is on social media. We do have a team doctor who would no doubt have picked up on these issues, not to mention his parents.

You can raise any issue you wish on here, and I will guarantee you sympathy and derision in equal proportion; it is a football forum mainly to discuss football issues. Plus fans on here are not alway Political correct; that doesn’t mean they are without sympathy. Also they may not have personal knowledge of MH, and therefore have little understanding of the issues. I have found persuasion is the best way rather than being ‘told off’.

He was mocked on Twitter by your club after a run in with that pr*ck Maguire, a tweet that actually upset Gibson enough for him to respond to it. I’d suggest you to give your club the lecture about mental health issues as what they did will have far more an effect on him than something posted on here which he’ll never see.

 

Fair enough. Like I said, I don't know the player, how he plays, what else he puts on Twitter like you lot probably do but I thought I'd get my point across about the first page of this thread. I'd have done the exact same on the Sunderland forum if a similar situation happened. I've made my point and you've made yours. It's an awful illness that I feel strongly about so ofcourse I'll make strong points about it.

If our fans then went on to say that he was attention seeking by directly responding/talking about his response, then it would be a similar situation. As far as I know, they didn't.

Did you need to see it? It’s been mentioned in this thread quite a few times already.

 

That comment to me just means fed up with football and it not working out for him, dont think its anything to do with mental health.

 

I text Mr Gibson asking what inspired the tweet.
Apparently he'd burnt the Yorkshire puddings, didn't have anymore Aunt Bessie's in the freezer.

I live hearing about how Newcastle fans are unbelievably arrogant or the breaking news that Middlesbrough lost to Micheal Flynns Newport (Why didn't we have a thread on that very subject?).

It really is forum enhancing stuff for all Bradford City fans.
