What if your wingers are Daly and Gilliead?

 

Had talks with Rotherham and I suspect all lined up to sign once they have got rid of another one of their other strikers. He is out of contract so can sign for them after the deadline has passed

 

Well then Daly better be able to score 10+ in half a season to account for Gilliead scoring maybe 1.

 

No chance Gillead will score one, Especially with our wonder manager playing a 4-2-2-2 formation he read about in football manager first half before another 3 formations in the second

 

I'm not sure the formation affects Gilliead's likelihood of scoring

We seem to have signed two no 10s in Walker and Daly, though Walker can play wide right. So why didn't we play them in those positions today? Vernam on the left and Angol up front. Not perfect, but rational and preferable to what we actually did do. Instead we had a bizarre line-up that produced nothing.

 

as odd as it seems, it was probably “too attacking” of a line up for Adams. I suspect one of the main reasons that Gillead plays week in week out despite providing a poor attacking output is that he does his fair bit of defensive work. Now whether he provides adequate defensive cover is a different topic entirely but im guessing thats the logic Adams applies during team selection

 

The continuous selection of Gilliead is one of the most puzzling conundrums in all my 60 years of watching City.

 

Yes I’m no fan I remember when Parky played McMahon as a right mid probably for similar defensive reasons and got pelters for it, but at least he could take set pieces and assist!

 

Absolutely dire on his 'stronger' right hand side so DA in all his wisdom plays him on the left for the second half.

Not since the days of making Zesh Rehman captain have I seen such incompetency from the bloke in charge.

 

For all his faults Gillead is probably our hardest working player. And with his recent better end product and display against Salford deserved to play today

Ryan openly stated the aim was promotion so he'll need to find a way to invest.

Clearly the manager is stubborn or unable to coach other formations than 4-2-3-1 so it's time Ryan invested in players that suit that formation otherwise there will be more days like yesterday this year.

 

Didn’t he play 4222 and 523 yesterday?

 

He played them, maybe others. The players seemed lost so it didn't seem like he had coached them how to play in those formations.

Telling the players where to stand on the pitch is one thing; we can all do that!

Actually coaching them to be able to play in different formations and using the players to their strengths in those different formations seems far beyond Mr Adams capabilities.
