January Transfer Window

Anthony Grant's loan at Swindon expiring and he is returning to Shrews. Always thought we should have been in for him in Summer and he would sort our midfield out. He's been one of their best players I believe, in fact I wouldn't mind them keeping Doyle if we got him in.

I’d like to think that Palmer would return to his parent club before Cooke. Or even better, we keep both on loan and get rid of Devine, Akpan and, if there’s a God, we can remove ourselves of Anderson too.

 

Agree with that, just a bit worrying Palmer seems to be playing ahead of Cooke at the moment, which makes me think Cooke might be leaving

Posh looking to sell, we probably aren't looking to buy. So resigned to losing him.

Decent, not great. Wouldn't be missed imo.

 

He is literally Swindon's best player according to their fans.

He dominates the midfield virtually every game, while Doyle kills off the opposition with his goals.

 

With Devine, Akpan and Anderson, I’d say a merely average midfielder would be an improvement.

 

Not sure if its been mentioned but Tranmere just signed midfielder Alex Woodyard on loan from Posh. Puts the rumours about Akpan to bed?

Yeah I agree but also depends on what system we use. Play with a midfield 2 (like most people want in a 442) I don't think you can afford an attacking CM as you are too open. Grant and Reeves would be almost a perfect midfield at this level and I think we'd get more out of Reeves.

2 good signings like Grant and an attacking option for when Donaldson isn't fit, as well as Devitt coming back and I think we are looking strong. Fund it through offloading all the deadwood in the squad - there's about 5 that could go without particularly weakening us. Easier said than done though.

 

We could probably lose 8 or 9 players, if we were being harsh about it - I agree with what you're saying, I don't see us playing two in the middle if we're playing Devitt, so goodness knows what Bowyer's ideal tactics would be if everyone were fit.

 

Grant is indeed one of our best players. A proper midifeld general that often dominates the midfield. It's hard to quantify, but he may be a bigger loss than Doyle. (If either were to leave).

I'd be surprised if he was not at Swindon for the rest if the season. I doubt Shrew's want him, he was playing with the youths before he joined us. The rumours are that he stole money from the club. They might have sold him, but he's 32 so I doubt it would be for a fee that we'd be unwilling to match.

I've been wrong before, though.

 

Sorry mate “and he is returning” where did you see this. Can you provide a source in the form of a news article? I don’t for one minute think this is a fact.

We've had a thousand players steal money from our club, just maybe not in the same manner as Grant did at Shrewsbury.
