January 2024 Transfer Window

Just need to ensure we have enough to avoid a relegation battle. Any more of the recent abject performances and we are seriously heading that way. Think we will just be ok but it ain't gonna be pretty between now and May. Then ST ticket sales fall. Then..........it just goes on until some proper money is invrsted

 

We’ll end up with about 58 points, well clear of relegation which will be about 17 clear of the drop as Sutton and Forest Green won’t get more than about 41 points. That’s why I wouldn’t allow any more signings this January, they just drain a wage until the summer then we need another rebuild and be ruthless getting rid of out of contract players except Pointon. Just editing this post to include retaining Halliday as well as Pointon.

 

That’s sensible… Just tread water then root and branch….. Strange we seem to say that every summer?

 

Thing is I don't think it's done this season. We do have the players to play a decent game of football and win games.

We need to ditch the 3-5-2/5-3-2 whichever way you look at it and start playing 4-3-3 or a similar formation. Get the ball out on the floor to the wingers.

 

We aren't going to go down, FGR and Sutton are so bad, i cant seem them turning it around. We probably only need about 8 or 9 more points for safety. Reckon it will be a rough play out, with zero consistency. We will probably win 2 on the bounce, then lose 3, win and draw a few more then a couple of losses, up and down ending and finish about 16th.

Cant wait for the ST renewal announcement to go down like a lead balloon. I think we will still get about 12,000 - 13,000 sales, but not the 15,000 we've had the last few years. If the writing is on the wall for the season (even though the club will never publicly say that in January), there will be cheap loans or free transfers between now and Thursday and that's about it. Lewis money plus whatever we might get for Platt will vanish into covering costs. Cant see them commissioning good money this month to spend unless its a really good deal on a good player for the next 2 or 3 years.

 

Realistically we need to admit the season is over, any funds from Lewis and possibly Platt need to be saved for summer as it is unlikely GA will be our manager and we will require another overhaul.

 

I'm resigned to the idea that any transfer money raised this month will not be saved for the summer...... it's going to either go on balancing the books or go on the ST deficit when 2,000 - 3,000 fans don't renew.

 

Let's not count our "chickens" just yet on the "not going to go down" element. Yes I agree it's unlikely as we will scrap enough points from somewhere but the wider implication of this current shambles ain't going away any time soon unless things change right at the top. That's doesn't have to be someone new, just a shift in attitude and committment

 

I’ll be pleasantly surprised if we get anything out of this season, but there’s nothing in the DNA of the current squad that tells me their capable of sustaining any kind of positive run.

 

Amazed if either FGR or Sutton get the points we are on now they are simply that bad thank fook

 

Yes Jordan, FGR and Sutton seem to be in the mire, but both have yet to come to VP.
Can we honestly say, hand on heart, that they will not leave with anything?
One point, or even all three?
Are you confident that our lot will turn them over?

I am because they are both simply poor especially FGR.
My god how bad is it now that we are worrying about two teams that will be non league clubs come the summer.

 

I for one am looking forward to the Osedebe masterclass when FGR come to town.

 

Oh no way am i confident we'd beat either team. I'm confident that this squad will managed to pick up at least 7 or 8 points for the rest of this season to not be a drop contender though. With 17 games left, i reckon we end up with about 20 more points.... somehow!
