We are not in the modern football world though Fordy. We are in the arse end league four, where we have been for a lot of our footballing time and its miles away from modern football in the championship and premier league. Its simple really, all we have to do is put the ball into the net more times than our opponents on the day. Andy Cook has done that more than anyone in our league other than Hoskins. If we do manage to climb out of the shitpool, then we can think about these super all round strikers
who are like hens teeth at our level.

Same old shite, I'd suggest your in a majority of 1 if you think fans don't attend games to see a Bradford City player putting the ball in the back of the oppositions net, you're making yourself look foolish, not for the first time may I add.

I agree if its from the bench, he showed little yesterday to warrant a starting shirt, Nevers showed more directness in the few minutes he had than the kid Costelloe did during his 60 minutes.

I’m puzzled why he played him to be frank Dave, very puzzled, for someone who had been with the squad a matter of hours , most of which was on a bloody bus!

This just a scenerio but may explain things. Cook having a scoring spree and out of contract in summer asks Hughes for a 1 year extension. Hughes refused and punishes Cook by dropping him to the bench. Cook will not be here Feb. Just a guess at events but fits a bit

Something that crossed my mind a while ago. Quite feasible. Would I offer him a renewal?
Yes but a cheaper offer or the same …. If he decides to go , then good luck to him.

If it improves the team then who cares?

We are no position to worry about developing average players.

Exactly. I'd get this "develop one of our own" sentiment if Foulds was 19/20ish, but he turns 25 in 2 weeks. A full backs typical physical prime will be what, 27-30ish? How much more developing are we seriously expecting by his mid 20s?

If we have serious aspirations of moving up to L1 in the next 6-18 months, we will surpass Foulds, who is a good L2 full back but not a full back who is going to remain in the side when you go up that next step.

Danny Johnson has gone back to Mansfield. Doesn't look like Walsall have given up on trying to get him back, but Mansfield haven't really given any notice if they plan on using Johnson or selling him.

Also seems like today is the final day for EFL clubs to recall players. Seen it mentioned in a few places this morning when talking about players.

The Mansfield situation is a weird one Cloughy seems to have problems with his strikers, letting Cook come to us on loan where he did a good job and the lad Johnson being recalled from Walsall after scoring 12 in 22 games or 15 in total whilst at Walsall, as you say is the lad going back to play for Mansfield or are they loaning him out our selling him.
    This quote from Walsall :

Walsall Football Club can confirm that striker Danny Johnson has returned to Mansfield Town following the expiry of his loan deal.

The 29-year-old scored 15 goals in 30 matches during his loan spell at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.

We remain in dialogue with Mansfield about a potential return to the club.

It’s an hypothesis. A suggestion based on what EVERYONE else is summising…why drop Cook.?

    Can you hypothetically guess?

I dont get Mansfield to be honest, one of their most valuable players just left for Gillingham. Hawkins left also. The dont seem to really know what to do with Johnson who has been public with his desire to not play there again.

Walsall signed Jamille Matt, who has done very well at this level recently so maybe Johnsons replacement is already in? Although both would be preferable for them.

Its a shame, that we are not in a position to be able to develop our own talent, the best are snapped up by the bigger clubs and all we can hope is they come good, and bring cash back to us. The ones we are left with tend to need more time to develop, and we are all too quick to condem in the search for success at first team level. Where is the reserve league when you need it. Good place for the kids to learn their trade and keep fringe/returning injured players fit

Thank the Lord it’s not only me , I wouldn’t agree he’s a good L2 full back either. He lacks adventure even compared to Halliday who is always up the touchline.
