Got close links to the player.

It doesn't matter so much who the player is now I suppose, as a deal isn't happening, but it was just nice to know City are putting themselves out there and putting in bids for players again, rather that just fishing in the cess pit and talking up Kieffer Moore, only to bring in Kai Brunker etc!

Lets hope we see some movement on the next target now anyway.

I'll take a guess and say Paul Mullin as he's out of contract at the end of the season. Or we've offered Rotherham cash for Josh Kayode, as he'll be well down the pecking order, as they're after Amand Gnanduillet who's just been released by a Turkish side.

It's nice to know we are trying to sign quality
for six figure fees but we've had 4 players all turn
us down under McCall so it's all about succeeding
in signing these players rather than putting in bids
    which come to nothing.

Very true. We need bodies in the building to improve the squad, and talk won't do that. But we are active and wheels are in motion. Hopefully to avoid a repeat of the Kristian Dennis pizzagate situation etc.

Lets be optimistic but if the deal does'nt happen it's
    just wishful thinking.

Trouble with Jan window is only teams halfway with
no real prospect of promotion or relegation may take
the money or choose to ease their wage bills. But, still
half the season to go so options open all round. Clubs
won't want rid of good players to help promotion or
stave off relegation unless daft money is offered.

It depends if a player is out of contract though doesn't it. We are in that situation with Wood. We'd like him to stay, but if someone offered us something daft like £200k, we'd take it wouldn't we - he walks out of the door for nothing in the summer.

All sounds Kieffer Moore time again, I'll believe it when I see if we ever spend 6 figures on a player.

When you say the deal was knocked back is that with regards his parent club or his agent/the player, I'd guess his club ?.

Agree, the contract situation is important and we
should know about that and it's all to do with options
that are viable and more likely if a contract only has
6 months to run but similarly the player can negotiate
his own move when contract runs out.

We should see positive transfer enquiries that are realistic
for where we are, as that's what Turnbull's expertise was
    brought in for.

It’s gotta be someone in league two currently. No way anyone near the top scorers in league one is selling a striker for 6 figures when Toney went for as much as he did in the summer.

I am gonna say Mullin who has had a purple patch this srason so far and banged in the goals. Is it another Doyle situation though? Rest of his career is around 8-10 goals in this league.

@borderlescott@borderlescott see you've been pretty quiet on my prediction. Both players I've mentioned have scored goals at league 1 and 2 level. I'm presuming Kayode fits the bracket of up and coming and saleable at 20 years old. However if you've said goalscorer maybe looking at Mullin being an out and out goalscorer this season.

Can't see it being Diamond he started again for Sunderland on Saturday, a young kid only 20 and plays a specialized wideman's position.

We ain't signing a 17 goal striker at this stage of the season, can't see Cambridge letting him go for peanuts.

No I can't either, that's why I think Kayode is more viable, with him not being Carlisle's player and not getting in the first team set up at Rotherham. I'm just going off said player has scored goals in league 1 and league 2, so as it's been said it won't be anyone from the non league scene. Mullin on the other hand I agree with you, unless he has a clause or wants to move back up north. Another name I thought about was Jevani Brown at Colchester, last I heard about him though Peterborough were interested.
