Surely if you are to leave Clarke out then he has to be replaced by players brought in for that position Stevens or Crankshaw

 

Evans is a right sided midfielder by trade and has also played as a right wingback. No idea why he’s been put out on the left, it’s not his position.

 

He appears to be use his left foot to effect - his assist on Saturday along with other crosses.

 

I’d guess Rowe and Vernam were what you’d call the marquee signings and probably got most fan hype as well. The club will most likely want these two to be instant starters, like with Rowe I expect Vernam to come straight in and as above Evans to go into his natural position on the right(were he spent all his time at Pompey and became a club legend), who knows it may even help his performance further playing in his natural position. Obviously injuries are never good but Novak’s could be a blessing in disguise, as it gave T & S an excuse to put their new star man straight in and after Clarke hobbled off history might be repeating itself with Vernam. Gives them chance to make the position theirs before Novak and Clarke return and add depth.

 

Evans is a right sided player too though.

 

Its what we used to do m8, buy players and play them out of position cos like, footballer can play anywhere can't they? Well not anymore.

 

True, and this isn't a dig. But we need to consider the underspend from the summer, along with the McBurnie money and the Covid grant we've received. He's acted to protect his investment, he's spent at a time when he didn't absolutely have to. So fair play. I'm keen to see whether our approach from this January is repeated as we go forward. We've set a standard now - not in the volume of deals done, but with the decisiveness and boldness of action, we've acted aggressively and beaten off other clubs to targets, been ruthless in who we've moved out, we've worked to a plan, we've made no mention of deficits etc. That's the template. And hopefully the summer now needs no more than 4 or 5 deals in and out.

 

Sick to death of repeating this. You do not have to pay a contract out to end it. Legally both parties can end contracts without paying them off.
What actually happened was that they were told you are excess for requirements and are free to look for other clubs. when they got an offer for that player the contracts would be mutually terminated. if all these players were paid off, how come ALL of them went to another club in days? for the last time... contracts DO NOT HAVE TO BE PAID OFF.

but yes Rupp has done good. looks like Spark was the... Spark we needed to galvanise the club.

 

All that time we've been told it can't be done, spending equals admin and all that bollocks. Well, looks like it could be done after all.

 

They have clauses in where money is returned if they get another job within x anount of months. So one party may initiate it. The other party doesn't have to accept though hence why mutual agreement.

 

I heard Clarke is injured.

 

I'd be very surprised if Stevens gets any starts at all from now until the end of the season.

 

He went off against Barrow apparently feeling his hamstring. I thought he wasn't moving at all well when he did, so it wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't travel for the Exeter match.

 

We would certainly have compensated them though in the cases of those that moved for lower wages.

 

I think the key here is we haven't paid contracts up.. we've waited till players have found other clubs and signed deal probably on the same amount of money.. I don't imagine it's cost anything to get them moved on

 

Up to 4 weeks I understand, which could be about right for a hamstring pull at Billy's age.

 

The club have been clever this window. Being in a position to spend a little money on transfer fees when most clubs are on their uppers has meant we have been able to beat the competition and sign a better class of players

 

Fair enough I hadn’t taken that into account.

 

Most wondered why Stuart didnt spend the full player budget, now we hear it was a club decision another good move if it correct .
