    The bright dot at about 9 o’clock is apparently a “side on “ view of a galaxy. They just zoomed in on it and well, amazing.

    This is really impressive stuff. By the time everything has been fully (I recognize that “fully” is a loose term here) analyzed, astrophysicists will have far too much information for them to know where to start! This is absolutely magnificent and thought provoking beyond belief. A bit early here but I think a drink is needed.

    And that really is the point. Whilst these headline images will capture the public imagination, the data behind these pictures will take a lifetime (and beyond) to analyse and fully understand.

    They expected a hit on a monthly basis apparently, they've been able to re align the panel so it should be able to function as planned

    Lets hope so because it is a fantastic telescope. Early reports were that it was unrepairable but later ones saying it may be able to be readjusted

    This impact, on the C3 mirror, happened back in May, so they have been able to make the necessary corrections and the telescope is still exceeding expectations.

    The real issue is whether or not this was a freak occurrence or are there likely to be further strikes by meteoroids of this size, which could impact on the future performance of the James Webb.
