I’m not in to all the space stuff but I am fascinated by the massive sizes, measurements, distances etc.

To realise how massive Jupiter is,that little white swirling thing you asked about would be able to swallow up our earth.

"Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space."

For me it's not just the size of our planet but the time that we are here, 70 odd years or so, it's hardly the blink of an eye, why bother..?

Yep, looking forward to this launch, praying nothing goes wrong after all this time. There's a thread on Reddit, talking about the telescope having a closer look at Proxima Centauri B due to light being detected on there in the past. Would be an amazing discovery if they are artificial!

A couple of short postponements, the latest for weather, means that the planned launch is now on Christmas Day. The target is to launch as early as possible within the launch window of 12:20 to 12:52 UTC/GMT.

Trying not to go all Douglas Adams, that may indeed be the ultimate question. And whilst James Webb will be able to look back to just 200 million years or so after the big bang, it may be able to discover some tantalising clues.

James Webb should help provide answers to a lot of things we know we don't know, but what also excites a lot of scientists are the possible unknown unknowns it may turn up, things that we just didn't expect, things that could turn our 'understanding' of the universe upside down and inside out.

    Exciting times ahead.
