We heard from a Swindon fan in this thread where he says they throw everybody forward score loads and let loads in. That will suit Young because I don’t think from what we saw that his work rate isn’t all that high. Not sure he would get that luxury with us judging by how Alexandar is playing it

What about all the youngsters sold with big sell on fees without any great fanfare . You forgotton about those? Part of the clubs policy for a number of seasons.

That’s an understatement. His workrate for the system that MH wanted to play was poor. He wouldn’t track back and it’s my firm belief that’s why him and Hughes fell out.
A different role under a different manager could work however the ONLY role that fits the bill is the one currently occupied by Smith, alongside the target man, Cook or Oliver. There is no reason why it shouldn’t work . The rest is entirely up to him.
Remember his EXCUSE for not playing for us is no longer here . No more excuses .
What is clear…..we are in the driving seat.

Presumably his problem was with Hughes, who turned his back on him after a handful of matches.Alexander may offer a different environment for his development

I just can't see the direct approach we are going with, working for Young.
He's a technical player. Swindon play in a very different way to how we do now.
Playing him is a risk, if we've got offers of £250k+ on the table.

Alexander's playing Smith, who does nothing except, crucially, scores goals. He's not bothered about the second strikers work rate, in the same way Bowyer, Adams and Hughes were. Didn't he comment that when he had Adam Rooney at Salford, firing them to promotion, he was fine with him just scoring.

He certainly hasn't got Smith in the team for his work-rate, because it's moderate at best!! Long may it continue and he gets a goal per game. LOL!!

Spot on. I don't get this he won't fit in comments, when Alexander has more or less admitted he likes two strikers and expects them to occupy the front positions. He's not that bothered about work rate if they are scoring - because he knows the work rate will be fine, if they are knocking goals in as confidence always increases work rate.

Yes. That was failure. But Sparks brought this new thinking in when Hughes and Gent joined. So whilst not letting him off for errors before then, it will be interesting to see if this new approach works.

We only need one success a season for it to work. Problem is, I've a feeling that Sparks sails with the wind of whichever manager he has, which is why those who say we could do with DoF are not far off the mark.

Correct. If Hughes was here, I'd only having Young recalled to sell him or ensure that Swindon get no more benefit from him.

Alexander is a totally different fish. The most like Parky manager we've had since Parky left and totally committed to two strikers.

    Long ball? Really?

We are more direct at times and get the ball forward quicker but I definitely don't see it as long ball. At times we do still look to move it through the thirds, we just don't retain possession for possessions sake like we did under Hughes. I can't see any reason why this style wouldn't suit Jake Young.

I'd say so. Not exclusively, of course, but long diagonals seem to be our most common style of pass/attack - even when the wing back is nowhere near the area were aiming at.

We were very direct against Accrington, but then they also kept giving us free kicks which doesn't help the aesthetics admittedly.

I can see why their gaffer was annoyed about them playing long ball too. Despite having some very tall lads, it played into our hands.

We were very direct on Saturday. That was back to the Parky/Hanson days.
I think I read we had only 160 passes. There were games under MH where we had over 500 passes.

Well that is all we can do? If it is another Doyle situation, and he isn't fitting back into the team, then sell him on. If we get no offers, let him train with the kids or whatever

As things stand, he is far too valuable an asset to be letting Swindon keep hold of him while we struggle to notch goals. Only Harrogate & Gillingham have scored few goals than us, and it is extremely frustrating seeing Young bagging goals week in week out

The comments “where does he fit” are perfectly valid. The answer is ..only one position. He’s not a wide of the “3” because he’s proven to be lazy out wide , he’s not a centre forward, leaving him the one position only. Just behind Cook/ Oliver.

Technical? A new name for Jonny liner, goal poacher? Not a chance is he a “ technical” player. I’d call players like Kemp technical.

There's no technique involved in those 25 yarders he keeps banging in. It's just a swing of the leg.

Don't they count? If it's only tap ins that count, he's not scored very many.
