Charlton also signed Freddie Ladapo and they already have Alfie May who's on 20 goals so I'm not sure why they'd want to spend big on Young unless they are looking at him for next season and they'll loan him back out to us or Swindon.

 

Also, is Young really that good? I genuinely don’t know the answer to that. What I do know is whilst at Swindon, in Kemp he had a very decent player supplying him. Young has shown glimpses of quality in the few games he’s played for us, but personally I’ve not seen enough of him to pass comment whether our valuation of him is accurate or not…

 

It’s difficult to judge, because he never got a decent run in his preferred position here. He was played out on the left mostly and developed an unfortunate habit of running down blind alleys and coughing up possession in dangerous areas. It was pretty obvious that he wasn’t happy playing out there, hence his fallout with Hughes.
But what was obvious is that the lad can hit a football. We’ve lacked anyone who can score goals from distance (Rowe’s cameo apart) for years. So, if he doesn’t go, let’s hope he can be played alongside Cook and score a few belters for us.

Apparently JCH has told Charlton to up their offer, hence why they signed Ladapo yesterday and seemingly linked to Young. Cant see the need for Young with Ladapo and May, he won't start there.

Sounds like Clarke-Harris is going to piss off Peterborough and turn down moves unless it's for really good wages. Charlton offered him a wage rise too reportedly, but the same journo that has printed everything about his transfer (so safe to guess he is in with JCHs agent) last said something on the lines of Clarke-Harris wants to hit free agency in the summer as he thinks he can command a better wage race between clubs, than this summer when not many will fork out £500K. Same journo says Wrexham is his favoured landing spot.

I hope you are right. I watched a few of Swindon’s games in Dec as I have said before. He played alongside Austin or alone upfront. I do know he was being played injured and frankly he was anonymous , which I suspect was caused by the injury .

 

Yes, it’s hope rather than expectation. But we know that, when properly fit, he can score goals.

 

According to the YP, we’re training on astroturf at the moment because of frozen training pitches, so a number of players with niggles are not being risked on that for fear of exacerbating their injuries. We know that Young was being played by Swindon while injured immediately before his return. So why would we take any risks with him now, whether we plan to keep or sell him?

 

IF he’s still here in Feb, which I doubt, a front 3 of Wright Cook Young, with Walker or Pointon behind, should have plenty of threat. The problem is, unless McDonald plays we don’t have the sort of midfield who can move the ball properly from back to front. A technically gifted, deeper midfielder to play next to Smallwood is what we should be after, then Gillead to wing back.

 

Just watching MK Dons Morecambe, this is the level we should be aiming for, no surprise MK have been on such a good run under Williamson. They play some really decent stuff with Kemp and Payne in the cente.

 

And that should absolutely be within our reach, for next season. I doubt we'll get there though.

 

Depends on a couple of factors, the style of football your manager plays and the players you purchase to play that way. As it stands in my opinion we aren't good enough, we certainly couldn't match this MK Dons side as we currently are.
