Excellent post. Now we learn that not only did Hughes scupper our promotion chances last year with his cautious tactics, we can also confirm more or less his scatter gun approach to recruitment. I am old school if you explain to someone that their roll will be up top with Cooke then that is it. The fact that this young player had to go and keep asking what his roll was now yet another player has been recruited only to be told he is not back up to Cook but a completely different roll on the left. To Young's credit he tries to learn this new position only to have that position sidelined by more players arriving. No wonder he didn’t feel loved. The club owe him an apology.

More than enough time. We might have already started the sweet talking who knows. We cannot sell him to Swindon; what if we end up competing with them directly??? Not happening. Plus we should put a high price on him.

As stupid as the City hierarchy may be, they aren't daft enough to leave Young at Swindon. The moment they get the chance, he's being recalled to City. Best case scenario, he starts banging in goals for us. Worst case scenario, We've derailed a promotion chasing rival.

Personally, I think Young will do well for us, but im guessing GA will get a good look at him in training. If he thinks that Young can be effective in the team then brilliant, if not then Young will get sold to a League One Club. I don't see any League Two team barring Wrexham paying upwards of 200k for a player. Not that we should Sell Young for that much anyways.

A 22 year old lad, who will most likely surpass 20 goals by January, with 2 and a half years on his contract, with an option of a third. The balls in our court. 500k minimum, any less an the League One clubs can jog on

He aint worth selling for £250k. Might as well keep and see if he can continue his Swindon form and GA can play to his strengths.

Like I said, its ludicrous to let a player who knows where the net is leave for chicken feed. We have seen countless shite up top and only Wyke, Novak and Cook have known where the net is over the last 7 years. The list of those that didn't must be in the 20s.

I'd sell him for that sort of money but he was only behind Cook, Oliver and Smith because Hughes wanted him out, we'll never know how well he would suit Alexander's set up unless he's recalled.

    That part makes Zero sense.

You say that you don't agree with including the other 4 (who are midfielders btw so it's a bizarre statement anyway) and then finish it off with "far too many" to suggest we don't need Young.

At the moment we have 4 Strikers but Derbyshire, I think we can all agree, iis finished and won't play much of a part, if any.

So that leaves us with 3, one who's been very injury prone and one who has been flooded to death for 24 months now.

We absolutely need another striker if we're continuing with 2 up front, whether that be Jake Young or someone else.

Or we could try a partnership of Smith and Young to give Cooky a test now and again. It's not as if Cook is indispensable this season like he was last season anyway.

Cook, Oliver, Young and Smith can battle it out for the two places. Pretty much any combination of them probably works. If you don't score after 65 mins and the player who comes on for you does you might lose your place. Proper, real competition up front

He has to be recalled in January, simple as that. It would be madness not to

GA continues to impress me, he is saying all the right things including in his latest interview

GA has the experience and nous how to get the most out of League 2 players, Mark Hughes . That is the fundamental difference

I don't know why it is up for debate.

Recall him and use him. As simple as that TBH.

    1) we own him
    2) we pay him
    3) Hughes has gone

Best result would be He comes back, continues to score, repeats in next season and we sell him for £3million, spending £2.50 of that on a thank you card and second class stamp to send it to Swindon.

Correct. Parky wanted him in his final season- didnt happen and he went to Scunny for 2nd half of season and got 8 in 16. Not bad for a kid....

As for Young, i wouldnt be entertaining a £200k bid, just my opinion. Rather keep him unless its £400k north with 20%.

reading this forum, im glad that half of yous aren't the City manager. We need goals. Young can score goals at this level

All this talk about "signings dont always work out" well if you want to be risk averse, don't sign any players. Bit of a stupid argument dont you think? every player is a risk, but the same goes with life, if you dont take risks, you don't progress. Simple as that

Lets just remember this apparent 'knock' has not prevented Young from playing for Swindon.
The whole scenario is starting to be the usual bullshit smokescreen City fans have to put with

There is talk every year of the ticket numbers dropping, but they have held steady, and probably will if the price remains similar.
I really want to see if Jake Young has grown up and improved, as i say get him back integrated and if it does not work so be it and try to move on at the end of the season.
If he is not involved tomorrow, lets hope its City being more cautious with our player, than Swindon making him play when only partly fit and failing to score in that time, i am pretty sure they would have been more reluctant to having him on the pitch, if he was there for the whole season.

I agree, every player has his price but the worry is that we seem happy to accept peanuts when other clubs make it clear they won't sell their star player for scraps. Look at Wimbledon with Al Hamadi, they've made it clear they won't sell for anything less than a million, but yet some of our fans seem desperate for us to take 300k for Young because he might be worth less than that in the summer if we keep him. Beggers belief.

Imagine the ridicule directed at another club for selling the leagues 22 year old 2nd top scorer for a couple of hundred grand.

I agree Trevor. Sparks would have had to ok the send of Young to another club. Yes the lad snapped and insulted the manager. However, MH should have taken a breath or two and dealt with it or fine the player. Then the next thing he should have done was reflect on why the lad was so frustrated. We have seen how many if not all the squad has responded completely different to GA. That tells me that MH was behaving like billy big balls; yes he had the career to back it up, but not in management he didn’t.
As a manager you need a pragmatic head on. Yes voicing your opinion to a manager publicly was wrong, but what followed was bad for the player and bad for the club, it was all about MH.

Wasn’t there anyone at our club who could have had a word. Talent like Young need nurturing not damping down. All strikers come across as arrogant it is what drives them. He needed a little slap not a great big boot up his backside. In football as in life it’s about finding a way to get on with ppl even though you may differ.

No it doesn't, what it does show is @Park bantam@Park bantam has a more realistic opinion on what the player is worth, I wish fellow posters would stop trying to belittle other fans because they have a different take in things.
