Wow I don’t think we would get anywhere near that for him

You would be surprised, I liked him as soon as I clapped eyes on him. He loved the fans and adulation and literally fed of it. He also wanted to score and drove towards the goal. Of course he still needs tutoring but his attitude is aggressive and his technique is good. At this level there isn’t any better as the stats will tell you. We have a 2 1/2 year contract with an option for an extra year. Someone thinks exactly what I am thinking we have a real talent on our hands and we should not let him go for peanuts.

Plus we need GA or CR to put an arm round his shoulder and let him know how much he is valued and to reinforce that is the reason we gave him three years plus 1.

How much do you think a 22 year old that has 16 in 18 league games is worth then?

Crawley got close to £1m for Max Watters in 2021 - he had 13 in 15 and was of a similar age.

A striker released by one club and almost immediately sent out on loan by another I think most buying clubs would prefer to wait a little longer before paying anything like that

Marc McNulty failed at more clubs than Young when Reading paid over a million for him after one good season in league 2 for Coventry. Don’t get me wrong I don’t think he’s worth that much, but in football clubs always over pay. So I don’t agree with you that clubs will be cautious, football history time and time again literally proves the opposite is true.

The poster I'm replying to is suggesting they sell Khan to fund the real, not sure what they would get for him, but I very much doubt they could raise £250,000.

I would imagine Young's agent is being quite proactive in the market at the moment and there will be no shortage of interest; his current length of contract only increases his price and financial benefits, and the agent's incentive to push for a sale

Obviously some risk for all with him coming back to us, but would show some intent to get him back here and play to his strengths rather than selling to the highest bidder in Jan, and in my view worth that throw of the dice and then review in the summer.

Let's hope that situation has been discussed and both Alexander and Lucketti have footage of him at Swindon or possibly seen him play, leaving it until that short window without knowing our situation would be a stupid situation for the club to find itself in.

Telford is another example. He had one good season at Newport and everyone wanted him. He's done very little before or after.

£400k is absolutely f-all to the vast majority of Championship clubs as an investment. There are top end L1 clubs that wouldn't batter an eyelid. I remember Boro signing George Miller for £1m and sending him out on loan immediately - then Barnsley got involved with another fee and did the same.

Not all clubs scrimp like ours. You need to stop looking at this through a Bradford City lens.

Excellent post. Now we learn that not only did Hughes scupper our promotion chances last year with his cautious tactics, we can also confirm more or less his scatter gun approach to recruitment. I am old school if you explain to someone that their roll will be up top with Cooke then that is it. The fact that this young player had to go and keep asking what his roll was now yet another player has been recruited only to be told he is not back up to Cook but a completely different roll on the left. To Young's credit he tries to learn this new position only to have that position sidelined by more players arriving. No wonder he didn’t feel loved. The club owe him an apology.

More than enough time. We might have already started the sweet talking who knows. We cannot sell him to Swindon; what if we end up competing with them directly??? Not happening. Plus we should put a high price on him.

MH only briefly played two up front in January, when he went with the diamond in midfield.
I wonder if that's a bit of poetic licence from Young. MH never intended to play two up front when he signed him.
Did he mean for Young to play as a Number 10 possibly?
Young struggled when he was here and struggled at Barrow. Two Manager's couldn't get a tune out of him last season.

I liked him but keep changing his position on the pitch is not the way to get the best out of the player it just isn't; especially a young player. Get him doing what he is good at first then you can look at maybe a switch. Treating players with respect like actually discussing what is happening is a start. This is a player who needs plenty of encouragement to get the best out of him.

I just think it's easy for a player who hasn't played well for 12 months to blame others.
Two Manager's couldn't get a tune out of him. Clearly Flynn has.

Of course, all this begs the question . , .

When it was obvious Young wasn’t wanted by Hughes and he was initially lined up for loans in the NL, why didn’t we sign him on a perm - in all probability a free signing. I’m sure Flynn didn’t envisage him as a regular starter - back up striker at best. Circumstances obviously changed quickly and here we are. For us, the same question could be asked of Kemp.
