He resigned? No wonder he was a no show for the rest of the season then.

To think I had @NorthernMonkey@NorthernMonkey and @BoingBoing@BoingBoing arguing with me that they didn't think Jack Payne would be on a lot more money than Shay!!!

Can’t actually work out if you’re being serious. Why are championship clubs looking to sign him if he couldn’t cope in league two?

It’s the same old rubbish that gets trotted out in England. He can’t cope with the physical side.

Much like the many who said Guardiola couldn’t come here and pass his way to titles and couldn’t train tackling or pass it out from the keeper. No you couldn’t do that in England. Well look at him now. 198 points in two seasons and every domestic trophy in his cabinet.

Just because he’s small and doesn’t run all day like a dog we couldn’t appreciate his class. We will be two leagues below him next season.

Jack Payne was completely wasted here. Put good players around him and he wouldn’t look out of place at Blackburn or Birmingham. Anyone saying he was worked out or that he couldn’t hack league 1 football are seriously clueless about how football works.

Through all the hype as soon as we were paying him the equivalent of half a million a year he got lazy. Not the kind of character we need

Leigh Palin ......... now you're talkin' !! (Although I still favour Ronnie Brown above all, myself :D)
There's always room for midfield flair when you have players such as Kennedy, Abbot, McCall, Pepper etc around you.

My Dad was a huge Leeds fan, and constantly droned on about a certain Duncan McKenzie. I opposed with "So what ? City have Ronnie Brown."
We both watched the TV highlights of Arsenal beating City 2 - 0 in the FA Cup. Yet it was Ronnie, who ran the midfield that day, and not Alan Ball. My dad humbly muttered something like - "Yes, not a poor player, is he ?", lol.

I'd take Payne back, but it's not realistic is it. massive wages, and is he going to do a job in the physical up and at 'em league 2? doubtful.

    money better spent elsewhere.

I liked Payne but he didn’t perform for Bowyer at all. With hindsight we’d have been better not extending his deal on higher wages and bringing in others in his place ....but I think at the time we did right to keep him as he was key in our revival around Xmas. Besides, we’d maxed out most of the loan quota anyway.

He’ll do well for someone like Sunderland or Portsmouth in League One next season.

From Christmas even Obrien looked tired a tad. Who knows what happened but the Oxford fans I spoke too (AWAY) said why are you best two players on the bench. Anderson looked and played like he was wearing flip flops or like a frog on a wet lawn.....
