I'm certainly not looking for the club to publish its business plan! That's a matter for the CEO and his team.

But what I am looking for is a vision for club; for a statement of intent of where we are going; some clarity on what kind of football will be provided; whether we will be allocating all of the financial advantage we have with our large fan base and the commercial arrangements into delivering our vision. I want to hear that there is something for the fans to get behind and support. And I don't want to hear any of that that from our CEO or the current football manager. I want to hear if from the one person who really has his skin in the game and that's the club's owner. He's the one who should setting the direction for the club but for his own reasons, he is silent on this.

I am fed up of the clichés. 'Not getting promoted would be a failure'. 'We don't accept mediocrity'. 'Promotion has always been our intent'. 'We'll have a leaner and more flexible squad' said in the context of we'll emphasise quality not quantity. All said once and then forgotten. We have become masters of the mum 'n apple pie intentions.

I remain of the view that our owner is content to allow the club to tickover until he gets his asking price. If we are promoted in the mean time, that would be a bonus but I don't see it as a driving force behind the club at the moment. Without that intent to do whatever is necessary to achieve promotion, we'll have to rely upon a huge dollop of luck to do it for us.

Not quite sure it was over after Carlisle.

But was certainly over seeing the summer recruitment.

Oduor, couldn't do anything in a rubbish Hartlepool side.
Taylor, laughed out of his last two English clubs.
Tulloch, did nothing for an even worse Rochdale side.
    Afoka, just why?
    Oyegoke, roundly despised at MK.

The summer more than set the scene for this season.

I just don't see the requisite quality in the squad.

We have a squad that is lopsided, beefed out with filler material (Tulloch, Afoka, Tomlinson -wtf was the point in signing him?!) and players who simply aren't good enough - Ridehalgh, Taylor, Osadebe, Doyle, Derbyshire, Kelly. Could argue Smith too but that may be early. Then we have players we never see - Oliver.

I don't want to give up on this season but I really don't think we're good enough and haven't since the summer recruitment which to be honest, stank.

And it's embarrassing at this level. 15k season tickets, approximately 2k walk ups each game. And this is the best we can put together. It's criminal. We should be blowing the division away. Taylor at least got one thing right. We're the biggest team in the leagues, it's about time we started acting like it.

Ive seen you post this a few times now.
What do you mean by “awful” or “dark age football”?

Fans have been getting behind a more direct approach under McDonald and Parky was direct. It’s the passing for passings sake under Hughes which created zilch in terms of a chances that fans couldn’t stomach.

Most City fans don’t care how it’s done in terms of directness, they just want tempo and lots of attempts on goal.

Oh and who do suggest as an alternative?
The Cowleys are the only decent and realistic options from the out of work bunch.

Absolutely. We fell just short last season. We knew what was needed to go one better. A bit more quality, pace and mobility in midfield, replacements for Banks and Critchlow and adequate cover for Cook as he was obviously never going to hit the heights of last season. Pattison apart (who we've been unlucky with due to injuries), everything brought in has been a downgrade. No forethought in terms of whats been needed, just a rush to get as many bodies in the building as possible and hope we strike lucky.....we havent!!!!

Unless you're actually related to the Cowleys or have a real vested interest (such as a bet) this infatuation with a club you don't support taking them on is getting a bit weird m8.

Absolutely none; I've never met or spoken to them.
I became aware of them first when they took part-time Braintree to within 180 minutes of league football. I thought someone would come in for them and the man who made the move was Lincoln City owner Clive Nates. Lincoln had spent five successive seasons in the fifth tier without ever managing a top-half finish. I backed The Imps to win the National League and they did it first time. I made a lot of money thanks to the brothers. The next season they reached the play-offs and the season after they won the League Two title.and I again made a considerable sum because of the brothers.
I backed Pompey the last two seasons and lost a lot of money. But my faith in them remains undimmed. For months before Hughes finally got the push I pinpointed Bradford City as the perfect next club for the Cowleys and at the right time. I'd have sacked MH the day after the play-off final but better a little late than never.

I would describe our recruitment this season as a ‘supermarket dash’ style.

If we’re giving up on the season when two thirds of it is left, what’s the point in going?

give your heads a shake, people.

it’s time we shook ourselves from this malaise and being content with being shit.

we are Bradford City, the biggest club in the division, and anything less than a promotion push isn’t acceptable given our budget, fanbase and quality in the squad.

fitness, organisation and motivation are the qualities we need to instill in the lads - all are not dependent on needing a January transfer window (do you think Cambridge, Morecambe or Stevenage whinged about squad quality like our fans do?).

let’s stop being content with being shit and pull our god damn fingers out. From top to bottom - go for it.

The plan doesn’t even need to be that complicated. I’ve been saying it for years - the key thing in terms of playing style, is creating a ‘playing philosophy’ that engages the crowd. Passive football won’t work here. The identity of the city is working class, hard graft. In relative terms, the style we’ll always connect with is more Liverpool and Newcastle than it is Man City or Brighton. It just is. Any manager we bring in has to subscribe to that, without it being aimless long ball guff. And we’ve seen it first hand in the last few games. Engage this crowd and VP is a fortress and an asset. Disengage the crowd, its a millstone.

Focus squad assembly on quality over quantity, somewhere in the region of 20 strong players with 2 or 3 youth loans/young pro’s. Bulk of the squad between 23-27, a couple of older pro’s for leadership, and if we hit an injury crisis then its tough sh*t. Have one Dan Kemp instead of a Tulloch, Afoka and Wilson.

    No..

We've signed players that are too old, legs have gone or simply not good enough.

League 2 football for the foreseeable I'm afraid.

    Heads should roll.

Not yet there are plenty more shite results to come with these useless players wether we can avoid a relegation battle I'm not sure quite depressing when imo the best we can hope for is a lower mid table finish

This season isn't over until we amass 50 points.

    Then it is.

Until then, there's no room for complacency.

Enough to justify us starting this season with a new manager
Anyone could see with MH spending the war chest and his style of play what was coming

Let’s be honest, them and Leam Richardson are the only decent free agents who are realistic.

B*****s. We have one of the most loyal and hardy fan bases in football. The sh*te we’ve been served for years, and despite being one of the most impoverished parts of the country with a city dying on its arse, we turn up in numbers home and away, with little more ‘demanded’ than a team that gives its all and approaches each game on the front foot.

I do think the lack of talk of promotion could be a deliberate ploy, as it takes the pressure off and if we do fall short, GA and/or Sparks won't end up with egg on their faces. However, I doubt very much that GA has come here just to sit and wait this season out before going for it next season and I'd be questioning his appointment if he is. Make no mistake about it, he will believe he can get us finishing top 7 and will be going all out to try and achieve that, regardless of what the official message might be.

I think that's the view of many people. We really have recruited badly and most think it very unlikely that we'll be promoted this year. It's very dispiriting to feel like this relatively early in the season. On Alexander I wish him well and hope that he can transform us. But the manner in which he's arrived here invites the nagging fear that he'll be just another version of the last three or four managers who've failed to excite us or get us out of this division. We can only hope for the best.
