I have an erm, friend that is adamant they are generic letters and it's impossible to tell whether you're streaming football or love island.

And with the dozens of legal streaming services such as Netflix in addition to gaming broadband use is already through the roof so the odd football game is hardly likely to set alarm bells ringing on the usage front.

So, (asking for a friend, of course) is this dodgy Firestick business different from streaming via a VPN?

Yes you still have to pay for the game if you use a VPN as anyone abroad does, I don’t know how much of the income goes to the club but it’s not complete stealing like a dodgy stick is.

It’d be worth a trial period to see what happens, even if just for games over a certain distance. Interestingly you can still watch Tuesday night games without having to resort to that so they don’t care that much. It maybe something to do with FIFA or UEFA I don’t know.

City were very keen for i follow to continue as last season but the football authorities want to revert back to the system before last season, which is a shame as I think we’d have sold 4000 i follow passes for Exeter away. I suppose they’re worried that with the floodgates open SKY would be hyping up Liverpool v Man Utd at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon which could affect an EFL crowd on a cold winters afternoon.

It’s actually a UEFA ruling article 48 which gives any association the right to block TV matches between 2.45 and 5.15 on a Saturday. However as you say the German, French and Italians don’t bother. Apparently its only the English, Scottish and Montenegro FAs that enforce it. Eventually this archaic ruling will be overturned by the clubs when they realise how much revenue they are missing out on.

Proper football, not a marketing opportunity.
What is this 'relly' that you speak of, sir? Is it one of those new fangled things similar in everything but spelling?

Whilst it’s no substitute for being there I follow is a great option for some people. Perhaps a different distribution of the money raised could persuade the smaller clubs to support it.

Don't think the 'smaller clubs' have the clout or the authority to have any say..

I can understand both your caution and unhappiness.

Some games will be available. Rather than try to rehash the article on the city website, this paragraph, will help to clarify what ‘May’ be available.

“Matches which take place on Bank Holiday dates during the season are also eligible to be streamed at the decision of the home club, while games taking place over international weekend dates are all to be streamed on a compulsory basis in Sky Bet League Two.

    These dates are as follows:

    - Saturday 4 September 2021

    - Saturday 9 October 2021

    - Saturday 13 November 2021

    - Sunday 26 December 2021

    - Wednesday 29 December 2021

    - Saturday 26 March 2022

    - Good Friday - 15 April 2022

    - Easter Monday - 18 April 2022”.

It is complicated and allows clubs some flexibility. https://www.bradfordcityafc.com/news/2021/august/efl-confirms-streaming-arrangements/

Thanks for this. While not alleviating my overall annoyance at the situation, it does make things a bit clearer.
