With the live experience and social aspect removed, it’s almost more important than ever that there is an entertainment value attached to following your club. If it’s mid-table mediocrity I’d challenge the most hardy of supporter to want to continue to pay the money to watch a game at home.

For me, it’s an a pure novelty to have the ability to watch every game of my club on TV. That said, if the standard is poor its natural that disengagement sneaks in when the match day experience isn’t there.

I think I am the sort of fan they were thinking of. I can only get to a few away games because of the time involved, but I am happy to shell out a tenner to spend 100 mins watching away games on ifollow

But Bradford is poor, urbanised area with lots of problems and little prospects for growth which is why we need cheap tickets to encourage fans to watch footie at VP. Whereas Bolton is a dynamic, thriving metropolis with great potential whose footie fans have deep pockets and will pay more than twice the price to watch their team.

    Or maybe not!

I’d have to assume that the estimates are based on previous sales, rather than a punt? At current sales rates, we’re not even selling a comparable amount of I-follow tickets to actual away tickets, despite it being cheaper and easier to watch an away game via I-follow than giving up your Saturday. If that’s not a sign of apathy then I don’t know what is. That said, you may well have a situation whereby 1 person buys an I-follow ticket and is then joined by others watching in a group.

I still maintain that quality is a factor. Even at a tenner and in the comfort of your own front room, its poor value because its poor to watch.

    It's not is it?

How many people do we take to away games? People are used to listening to them on the radio.

Add into the mix that there is often multiple season ticket holders per household so don't need to duplicate the purchase.

It makes budgeting on the basis that a third of our season ticket holders would buy away match passes pretty bloody funny!

But will you spend both the money and time on 80-90% of away games this season? If so, unfortunately I think you are a minority mad make up the current average which I realistically don’t see increasing by more than 20%, even if we improve on the pitch.

This is one of the most financially challenging times some of us will (hopefully) ever experience. I genuinely believe even with better fortunes on the pitch, that numbers will increase of individual viewers but not significantly by subscribers, as believe fans will meet in groups to watch games, local restrictions permitting.

Theres a reason a few of us continue to question the long term logic of cheap season tickets. As a sales technique in the short term it really is a last throw of the dice to literally beg people to watch or buy your product. In the long term, unless everyone starts to drop their prices more in line with yours, then you'll never really take advantage of the bigger numbers coming through the door.

Its defintely a factor but not one that would make a big inroad into ifollow sales imo. We just have a fan base that is big on numbers at home due to dirt cheap season tickets but that figure has never been a factor on away games where generally our support is actually pretty poor on numbers.

Would be interesting to know which marketing brain thought we would get three times the current figure of ifollow take ups? Its actually quite embarrassing.

I think you have to factor in that a lot of people will be watching on IPTV as well.

What a depresing thread, the club have obviously got their sums wrong, but if fans feel they are not getting value for money dont subscribe to away games it's realy is that easy.

Maybe City fans are more sociable and one fan purchases the sub for the game and several mates come round and watch the game whilst having a beer or two maybe that should read tight rather than sociable ;).

I read it as they expected that for away games. Could be wrong. But first 500 we get nothing anyway. So another 2500 on top of that? No chance. People will watch at family members or friends. If we go stricter lockdown that may change with less mixing going on but a thousand or so passes and away game ain’t too bad. It’s ok saying figures are down but there has been a lot of games recently. Have we played 12 now in all comps? If you don’t have a season ticket that’s 120 quid in around 6 weeks? It’s expensive

I probably will watch 80-90% of away matches. I think quite a few will. However I can't really see anyone paying to watch a home match who hasn't already bought a season ticket.

How does it work for away games in a normal world? Does the home club keep all receipts for away tickets sold?

Yes, I'm sure plenty, probably including some on here, will be watching on illegally hacked streams on IPTV rather than buying the stream from the club.
