Watched on Sky and such a good win.
Thought we were good value and should have had at least one more goal.

Really think we’re going places with Sparky.

I know it’s an unpopular but I thought the balance was better tonight with Gillead alongside Smallwood

Good performance tonight, much more intensity in our play both on and off the ball. Really encouraging defensive performance after Saturday's antics too.

Much better side when we play with width and was definitely a much more balanced looking team. Banks was promising and Chapman looks more influential centrally.

Need to back it up on Saturday now.

agreed. If nipicking, his corners need to be flatter though. Banks showed him how to do it with a lovely dipper from the right - shame our love train couldn’t get on the end.

Smallwood looked to be a fan of the floater and wasted several.

his general play was spot on though I agree

Its his work rate and reading the game that helps him. His closing down of space often denies the opposition the space to work with, As Fergie at Man united always said its what a player does without the ball that is most important and managers who ball watch will miss the importance of controlling the game through denying space even under pressure

And this is the concern. We looked more likely to score last night against a team who come out of their own half, but didn't look like scoring against a team like Donny who were happy to sit back. Newport will take the sit back and break us down approach and that is likely to be seen for most of the season when teams come to us, it's overcoming that if we are to even mention promotion this year.

Certainly a bit of a headache for Hughes on Saturday now - in a good way! Cook surely has to start. I thought Young was excellent also. Hughes needs to get himself a bumper pack of Panadol ready for when Walker is fit and Harratt is back off suspension. Can't remember when we last had so many attacking options. I liked Banks, and maybe, just maybe we've found the option on that right side, with Halliday looking good and linking up with the wide men well, not to mention slinging early balls into the box.

On Saturday, we need to get an early goal, so that it makes the oppo come at us instead of just sitting back at 0-0. We looked a lot better soaking up pressure and looking to get something on the break. Totally different from the two league games, where it's us who leads the play and we get nervy/frustrated and get caught out. Something Hughes needs to work on.

Amazing what a win does, half commenting on here were at manic depressive stage last Saturday. First half hour last night we were chasing shadows but importantly the team had a shape to it for the first time in three games. Had we have gone with the same shape as the Barrow game I'd have us 2 or 3 down at half time. Going back to the lone striker and three behind who are mobile was what we did well at the end of last season. Where that leaves Angol and Oliver who knows but to me it's important for the team that we play a mobile front four. Chapman looks comfortable centrally, he isnt a winger who will go to the byline. Like the look of Banks and Young, both like to run direct down the middle as well as wide. I hope folk can see what Smallwood does well now, no nonsense. Helped him having Banks, Young and Chapman in front of him calling for quick ball to feet rather than looking for Angol or Oliver.
Early days still, we might well get stuffed in Saturday. But if we play the same formation as last night I'm pretty sure we won't.

Don't think that was OTT for one minute, we all felt the relief that we weren't continuing to be as bad as our first two league games...

Well, very happy with that, slightly surprised as I wasn't sure our possession-based play would translate well when facing a superior XI, but after whipping in 5,452 corners, we finally put a cross on Cook's noggin and boy did he finish it well!

We can say what we want about whether Cook should have started the season ahead of Oliver based on fitness, but the fact is Cook has just delivered a heavy blow to Oliver's chances of starting the next game - and fair play, too!

3 goals in the past 120 minutes of football is belting.

Delighted for Cook, and hope he continues scoring.

At the back we were a little error prone, but I still think that's us bedding in. For sure the lad Crichlow is going to make mistakes, and he should have been sent off yesterday - but his passing game is clearly why he's been brought in, and this is SOOO MUCH better than playing Paudie O'Connor or Niall Canavan and expecting them to be ball playing centre backs simply because we want to play different way.

This is what we were all so impressed with in the Summer; signing players with real purpose.

We're going to conceded goals this season, but when we start to click, hopefully we'll be scoring them regularly too!

Onwards and upwards, up the City!

Last year our defenders wouldnt have got near the striker. Critchlows pace is something you can't teach

In case anyone doubted that Hull took this game seriously, it was interesting to see that all 10 of Hull City's outfield players, plus all 3 of their subs, in yesterday's Championship match against Norwich City, played against us on Tuesday evening.

I'd take that if we can get our first win of the season and a potential second round tie to earn us some cash. We need something to build off following our start.

Really enjoyed that. They plenty of possession but little outcome.

Rather lucky with their goal, great save by Lewis, rather unfortunate for it to go in off his back.

Hats off to Cook, Halliday and Young.

Young and Cook have to be a starter on Sat, Banks growing into the game as it goes on.

Hey and a training ground move comes off for the first time in 50 years lol!

Nice to watch for the last 15 mins of the half.

He scores goals and that is a good habit just need a bit more confidence going forward, but the second was well worked and the first Big Bobby would have been proud of that one, great jump powerful header/
