agreed. If nipicking, his corners need to be flatter though. Banks showed him how to do it with a lovely dipper from the right - shame our love train couldn’t get on the end.

Smallwood looked to be a fan of the floater and wasted several.

his general play was spot on though I agree

Agree. Been saying he should be starting ahead of Oliver and he showed why last night.

The challenge Oliver’s arrival has set him looks to have worked. Three goals in two games and led the line superbly last night as he outperformed multi million pound Championship forwards.

I still hope we see him and Oliver together at some point but for as long as we play 4-2-3-1 the striker spot has to be his short term.

Good performance all round Andy Cook deserved the m.o.m . Great to see what i call a centre forwards outstanding performance

I’m abroad so haven’t seen any games this season and was out last night so didn’t see any of the game, but got back in just as Windass was talking about Cook’s performance.
I thought the little montage they put together showing what Cook did emphasised just how good he led the line.
He looked to hold the ball well and used his power to win a couple of balls back when it didn’t quite stick before laying the ball off to others.
I thought he might not figure as much this season but it seems he might not be ready to accept playing fewer games and is putting in a serious claim to be first choice striker.

Not a match winner for sure , but a useful player to have in the squad, MH seems to think so too. At the latter end of the season and last night he again he had him sat in front of the back four. It’s his best position for sure. Him and Smallwood broke up a lot of their approach work. I’m happy with him in that role if our backs are against the wall, but if we want dynamism…..Then East is the clear winner. As I said before, I believe he’s going to be the surprise package?

For me Sutty was pretty anonymous last night and has been in all three games so far. Perhaps I wasn’t watching properly?

I didn’t record the game, (idiot) and had to put the four legged ones to bed at the end. Does anyone have a clip of the MH interview post 90 mins please?

I have an even more unpopular view...........I thought Gilliead was MOTM.
He broke up a lot of play and passed it well.
Great bit of skill in the second half too to create the chance.
That deeper role looks perfect for him.

I have said throughout the summer that I wouldn't have been surprised to see Cook leave for the simple reason that he wants to play every single game and with the signings of Harratt and Oliver, it didn't look like he would be starting that often. What an attitude that lad has, the way he's come back leaner and fitter and determined to fight for his place and to show that you ignore him at your peril is exactly the sort of player we all love and need. Long may it continue.

Agree Kev. He looked really sharp in pre season against York, but he's looked off the pace and not the usual bundle of energy he is in the 3 games since the start of the season. Hopefully just a blip.

Not man of the match, that was Cook, but he did have a decent game…doing the dirty work with Smallwood.

Not sure on MOTM but he put himself about. Far more effective than Saturday. Decent performance. No complaints.

I thought him and East did their jobs last night in just being reliable and sitting in the middle of the park and not giving any room to pass around. We basically closed the game down when they came on and were very solid. They hardly had a chance. It didn't need either to run the length of the pitch or create chances. Great to have two good, solid players that can come on and help close out the game.

What I found interesting was Songo’o sitting behind Hughes looking glum. He's not getting a lot of game time.
