Think we need another player up top. Give their defenders someone else to think about other than Cook.

 

Crankshaw's end product is so poor. All the more reason to question why Vernam went off.

 

We had at least 4 clear cut / should score chances. It was not a lack of chances that was the issue.

 

Erratic finishing and a weak defensive right side.

Real worry the lack of quality options on the bench when we need to change the game like today.

 

I don't think it was a lack of options really - just in adding two central forwards we removed the width on the left side which was where our threat came from.

Desperately need the right side to be as effective going forward as the left side. Vernam and Ridehalgh seem to play well together. Gilliead and Threlkeld aren't as good.

Three in the centre - either Evans/Watt/Cooke or Gilliead/Watt/Cooke - was overkill and we created very few chances through the centre. Would have been best to take one of them off and switch to 4-4-2 or 4-1-3-2 or summat to keep the width on the left. No good having 3 central forward on if we're hoping Crankshaw won't hit the first man or clear the centre/crossbar. He looks really out of form.

 

Didn't Adam's realise that City is a manager's graveyard before he came?

 

I had two quid on Oconnor to score first within 20 mins. At 66/1. Imagine how much I was shouting at the box for that miss

 

I don't think any one could disagree with Adams post match interview/summery very honest, even his comment with regards Sutton, although I cant make out his last comment with regards Sutton, has he been a naughty boy, if so Adams is the wrong manager to mess with.

Nope. Time to challenge his nonsense. He gets away with too many freebies. Just go back with questions that he can't answer. He soon gets bored and clears off or changes the subject.

 

Catch 22 in games like that. We had all the ball and pressure, and we were creating chances. We could have taken off a centre half earlier and gone 1v1 at the back, but that creates risk both in terms of your result and in terms of the continual pressure you have. As soon as they took their striker off, we went to a single centee half. Can't blame Adams at all today in my opinion - although I wouldn't have taken Vernam off. We created 5 nailed on chances - one of those has to be taken

 

Not according to their manager who recognised we are a good side. Maybe take your blindfold off when the game starts.

The move which lead up to Vernam missing with the header was worth the admission fee on its own

 

Poor management by Adams, He seems very negative in his team set up and subs, Bringing a center back off and bringing on a forward with 3 minutes to go was ludicrous along with taking Vernam off was unfathomable, Evans is well past his best and am amazed he gets in the team and could be said as he failed to track back in the box for their goal which he shares some of the fault,
Strong doubts as to whether this team is good enough to go up,

 

We did create chances but the problem is that the people trying to take them aren't those who score goals even semi-regularly. Vernam and Crankshaw both missed really good chances. I can't see them scoring more than 5 each this season from what I've seen so far and arguably Vernam is on really good form. So, if we can't find a way to give Cook more opportunity then we won't score enough goals. He's too wedded to a formation with Cook being isolated up top. Needs to be more flexible because teams will come to defend - we all know it.

 

Its a concern, I agree. We need to be meaner at the back and more clinical up front. On the plus side, we look much, much more cohesive and creative than last season. And with today's line up, with almost the same players. The big question is whether these players can develop that killer instinct or not.

But right now, I feel pleasantly surprised at how entertaining and creative Adams style of play is. I think there's a lot more to come from this group.

 

Sadly the transfer window closed on Tuesday. Funny isn’t it, how we’re always needing an orthodox right back, but we never seem to sign one.

 

Parts of this I agree with performances and more importantly results are starting to concern a bit. Vernam was one of the better players and a constant thorn, Evans is old and slow I don’t rate him, and Cook was often too deep or outnumbered, but still should have scored. There’s a lot of pressure on him the way we are set up.

I’m starting to think top 7 is the realistic target, not top 3, and we’re missing Angol a lot more than I thought.
