They almost did. But we scored from that attack. Still makes me smile.

Good tactic by Stuart to put the speedy Connolly up top. Stevenage assumed if there’d be a breakaway it would be through him and had him marked. Novak found the space and took the chance.

Did remarkably well to dig that out on a sticky pitch, with the defender closing too. Lovely finish.

Just seen it again on the telly. Pitch looks even worse on telly!.., and yes he did very well not to get bogged down ploughing through the mud. Great determination and cool finish. Really enjoyed that goal

thought we settled well last night and we're looking decent for first 5-10 minutes and then bad habits took over again and we fully deserved to be 1-0 down at half time. made the point to others at half-time that McCartan needed to be freed up, he was lost out wide.

started second half well and we're good for half an hour, bit fortunate with the third as if Tom Soares had a better touch it would've finished 2-2.

you can only beat what's out in front of you but we still need to vastly improve. no more so than in our concentration levels towards the end of games, that's been clearly evident for a long-time now. also thought we played the conditions well.

it's a step in the right direction, but only a small step - we'll face a lot sterner tests over the coming weeks.

Not having a go but genuinely interested in why you think our current 2 CB's don't suit McCall's style?

BRE having a very mixed season but think O'connor has been decent and can carry the ball out of defence

AOC switches off and doesn't know when the come out from his defensive line or stay. The goal Grimsby scored was down to him chasing the ball.

Look, he's done better than last season and I would keep him but we need defenders who are comfortable on the ball.

one of the biggest issues is neither is vocal enough or wants to be the one to control the back four and the line. both look to each other to see who makes the calls. for me it should be the two O'Connor's - BRE can be too rash at times, his positional play is poor and leaves him diving in. good centre halfs rarely need to go to ground.

Paudie looked excellent at the end of last season but hasn't convinced when he's played this year. BRE started the season really well but has massively lost form . Watching him lollop forward is like watching a giraffe try play football. Don't think either him or AOC were comfortable in a back 3 / 5 either.

Perhaps Paudie will come back in from the cold. Think he's got potential but his progress has stalled this year. That said there's probably only Connor Wood who can really hold his head up high this year

Bowyer made too much of Paudie last season and making him captain was a mistake.

Paudie did play well last season but it highlights how poor in transfer market Bowyer was and an extremely poor manager.

Bigs the player up, signs him then he's on the bench.

I actually think AOC is comfortable on the ball and is a decent footballer. He just suffers the same as everyone else from a lack of options in front of him leaving no option than to hoof it.

    Sorry fully disagree.

Reeves is always an option. Problem like I say is he doesn't know what to do with the ball.

Against Stevenage he had plenry of chances to move forward with the ball be stood there with it inviting pressure then keeps on doing it so Reeves drops back then the whole team drops back.

His decision making on the ball is awful highlighted by the Grimsby goal which cost us 2 points.

But if he does move forward he ends up in a dead end because there is still no one showing. I don't want my CBs trying to dribble out of defence on that pitch. I haven't seen a replay of the Grimsby goal so can't comment

Watch the reply 100% his fault.

Look, he's had an ok season so I won't hammer him too much.

However, seems we always find an excuse for players.

I believe Reeves is an option must of the time and in a 4-4-2 attacking you need your defenders to be comfortable on the ball and know when to bring the ball out or it doesn't work

Yes, unlike Brunker who any supporter could tell for certain was useless after ten minutes.

Guthrie was very poor, but not in the same manner as Kai.

We will have to agree to disagree. I think AOC is more than capable of bringing the ball out when it's right to do so

Guthrie is extremely poor but we live in hope with him but with Kai he was lucky to be a footballer.

Just feel I he has 13 games to prove himself but I suppose that's for all the players we currently have.

I don't think he was very poor, I just thought it took him longer to get into the game. I agree though, he isn't to the standard of footballer that Kai was.

He was never in the game for me.

You tend to expect a player playing against his old club to be putting it about, giving it ten times more than normal but I didn't see that.

It's early days for him but I hope he isn't one of them that thinks I have a contract so that's me safe for a bit because his record shows he is one of them.

13 games to make a difference before Vaughan is back and McCall wanting more forwards.

    Good luck to him.

He did make a difference. Watch the replay for the second goal. Not enough but for goodness sake let’s not throw him on the scrap heap yet.
