A Director of Football is usually just a very experienced manager.

What's critical is the DoF has a vision, the club have a vision, those visions are the same and agreed upon, and the burden is thus eased for whoever comes in to manage the first team affairs of the club.

Who we would try to attract would depend on which course we wanted to take and what style of football we wanted to imprint as a club culture and identity. There's no point having a DoF if you don't want continuity. There's no point hiring one if you're happy bouncing from direct ball merchant to counter attacking football to ticka tacka (or whatever that term is). You only need one if you want a consistent direction - hence the word 'Director'.

I personally hate the lack of direction this club has had since the Premier League. Even when we stumbled upon Parkinson and all the success he brought, we did absolutely nothing to continue moving in that direction. We hit the reset button and hired Stuart, then hit the reset button multiple times thereafter, and here we are; directionless in League Two.

You're right, you get what you pay for. At the minute we are paying £0 to ensure the club moves forward in a specific direction, and we're sampling the fruits of that as we speak.

We had a discussion about this time last year how Bolton and Ian evatt would do. You were completely wrong about that and what your mates in the boardroom meetings were saying. Have a look at the league one table tonight. Completely turned them around without a pot to piss in this time last year.
At least Fordy has been right on occasion

Speaking of Bolton, and I'm not directing (lol) this at you @How@How, but it's a good opportunity to look at what Bolton have been doing to turn their fortunes around.

Evatt aside, it's interesting to note that they've gone up and not struggled.

In February they appointed a Technical Performance Director that worked at Huddersfield for years, Chris Markham.

Their success is no fluke, and our lack of success damn sure isn't a fluke either.
