In the first half I thought we were shaky down both flanks. Too many crosses were coming in. We improved across the board second half. Interesting that AOC is credited with having a very strong game and for the most part he did, though its worth keeping in mind that his goal saving challenge when their lad was through only came about because he was out of position in the first place. That said, I like AOC at right back. I think he's better there than CB.

 

AOC actually said in his post match interview that he was disappointed that he got caught out high, felt we were comfortable in position. I'm happy with AOC at RB too, solid enough.

 

100%. The work he put in to support FCD seems to get conveniently forgotten about by those that don't rate him. He might not be first choice anymore but with all the games coming up, he will still have a part to play and will give his all when called upon.

 

He is a clever player with good passing ability and the ability to unlock defences with a clever pass, If not in the starting 11 he is worth his place on the bench,
Same with Rowe, Cook and Novak, A forward for any situation when one is not working

 

Can't be arsed reading that morecambe review but it feels good to beat them as they've always been a bit of a bogey team. I thought they were decent and well organised. But we deserved that after playing really well and creating far more clear cut chances than them.

Their goal was a freak shot as was our second so that evened out! A Cook should have buried that header second half, Vernam had a great chance in the first half and Canavan was a whisker away from scoring and c Cooke also came very close. Their guy mendes was a handful and AOC did brilliantly well to nick the ball when he was through on goal. But otherwise they were resorting to long range speculative efforts and pumping long balls in which paudie and Canavan kept clearing.

Agree on Clarke. If he has to be content with a place on the bench it's testament to the current quality of our squad. Sure he'll be called upon and won't let us down when that happens

 

I get the impression that since Stuart left AOC has been told to stay put and not venture forward. Now he's at RB he can get forward again. I thought he had his best attacking game this season. I've been disappointed with his goal return the last couple of years

 

Your right plenty of games to come twice a week mostly now until the end of the season so for that one position alone we have A O'Connor, FCD and Hossannah a nice situation to be in.

 

I agree but I feel Connor Wood is getting a hard time at present. Yes he makes mistakes and no he's not hit the heights we thought he might but last night I read someone even directly blaming him for the goal?

Yeah he could have been closer but there's not a full back in the world stopping a cross that was sliced at least 10 yards from where he was probably aiming. It's just daft to even suggest it.

AOC? Yeah I make you right. He should make us more solid defensively and as we've seen, he likes to pop up here and there and grab an odd goal. It'll be his spot to lose from now I think.

 

Wood's a decent League 2 full back, who, with a bit of development could be a regular and decent L1 full back. And people forget, he's played only one full season of professional football before this one. His breakthrough season in L1 saw him out of the side as much as in it. He's had how many managers, played in 3 or 4 positions and had had umpteen left sided midfielders/forwards in front of him. I don't see him as a wing back at all - he's a much better full back and has a very good cross on him. A bit of consistency around his position, manager and left side partner and I think we'll see him really kick on.

I don't think either he or the keeper were at fault for their goal btw. It was just a freak incident.

 

It was very wet but the pleasing thing was it didn't dig up. With last season finishing early I wonder if the groundstaff just put seed down where necessary rather than re-layed the pitch. I always felt that once the drainage was sorted the grass roots needed time to bed in to stop it breaking up rather than using loads of fibre sand.

The problem I have with ROD is that when he gets beaten, either from distance or at his near post, he has a go at everyone in front of him, it's never his fault.

 

Total tosh mate. Even when not at his best going forward Clarke gets through a lot of work tracking back.

 

He's been hauled off! as you say because he's either been injured or run himself into the ground so we've brought on fresh legs. Do you actually watch any of the games.
We are all entitled to an opinion that's what forums are about but at least be rational.

 

There's an audio interview with AOC on YouTube and he admits his mistake prior to that very good tackle, and so he does!

 

I'm not Clarke greatest fan but I think this season he has been involved in alot of the better things we have done going forward. He is going to find it tough to nail down a starting spot now though as is Novak.

Unless he's coming back from injury or illness, I would never have Rowe on the bench! He will become a player for us that we'll talk about in years to come.

 

A player who appears to be privileged to have signed for us. The little I seen of him so far, I get that 'Gary Jones' feel about him and I sincerely hope he become's as successful with us as Jones did.

 

What really excites me about Danny Rowe is that you always expect something to happen when he gets the ball. He's strong, clever, plays with both feet, sees openings and is always on the front foot. Who's the last offensive player we had like that?
