1 goal against the bottom 2 sides isn't play off form never mind autos both performances absolutely dire The atmosphere was dreadful today the only noise coming from the Morecambe fans fair play to them and their drummer created the only atmosphere there was
One of the lads wanted to stop in the Corn Dolly but was outvoted he was absoluletly right
At half time the 2013 suite was packed and still packed after the 2nd half started not many returned to their seats We were bossed today at home to the bottom team we couldn't have complained if they took all 3 points that's for sure
GB antics at the final whistle suguested he was overjoyed pity most of the fans weren't
Play like that against a decent side and we will be beaten out of sight but whilst we are in Play Off/ Auto spot GB will keep playing his boring blend blend of football

My thoughts exactly. Really poor performance until we went to 442. How can so many people see it and Bowyer can’t. Wood and Connelly looked decent together on the left, get Zeli on the right and play 2 strikers.

I understand playing with 5 at the back for tougher away games like next week, and it’s nice to have that option, but there’s no need to have 3 CBs against a lone striker who has 1 goal this year. Boring, negative tactics.

 

Not sure i buy into the view that it is promotion at any cost.

Whilst keen to get out this division surely we want to create a side and a pattern of play that can be sustained in league one and avoid a swift return. Not convinced on either point that we are close to achieving this.

 

People need to realise we have just played 360 mins of football over 11 days with a team that has been beset with injuries and sickness. We have returned 10 points and sit well in the table.
Think about the reasons for playing the type of football and what we want to achieve at the end of the season.
The Xmas period goes a long way to determining the make up of the table.
It wasn't because the players are crap that at the beginning of today's game we could not string 2 passes together it was simply down to the facts that so many games in a short period plus the sickness bug and players out injured.

 

we've played like this since the first game of the season. It's got nothing to do with injuries, illness or fixture congestion. It's purely down to the fact we have a negative, boring, safety first manager.

 

Cooke is more attacking and forward thinking than Palmer, that's why the latter plays.

 

A bit of credit for Bowyer from me for the way he has managed the team over a hectic Christmas schedule.

The squad has been suffering with injuries and illness, yet we managed a good return of 8 points from 4 games, conceding just the 1 goal.

It was good though to see the shackles come off after an hour of todays game, going 4-4-2.

I have been critical of Oteh lately, however he changed the game today, and looked dangerous, albeit against limited opposition. I would have given him MOTM to be honest. He did more in his 30 minutes or so than any other player over 90.

I expect a return to 3-5-2 at Swindon, and to be honest, I dont mind this in certain games such as this.

 

That's the part that most worries me.

If/when results dry up and we start to slip down the league will he be brave enough to change things or still play the same pragmatic style of football? I think I know the answer and if I'm right it won't take long for the fans to turn completely.

 

Correction. Bowyer isnt the answer long term. I think hes looked at the injuries illness etc and thought. Shut up shop. 2 goals in 7 games. All you need is some luck or individual skill and you win. I don't like it but needs must. Devitt and Donaldson back will make a difference

 

I would consider that is what most supporters are concerned about, NM.
Most can handle schitt performances when the results keep turning up ......... But negative results through negative tactics have never gone down well, or survived.

Edit: I think Januarys fixtures and GB's tactics will tell us a great deal, how this season will pan out.

 

And a win and a loss will get you more points than playing safe and getting 2 draws.

 

Pretty certain you said he was finished and wouldn't play for City again.

Get players in front of him to move, make runs and want the ball and he will pass forward more. He's playing as a defensive midfielder, his main job is to sit and move the ball but if players don't give him options he can't do his job properly.

 

It's not a tough spell though, the performances now are very similar to what we've seen all season. I think some people seem to be deluding themselves that somehow Clayton Donaldson or Devitt being fit somehow equals a more fluid and attractive style of football.

 

I know things are always rose tinted in Park World

No need for it. But it'll happen. 5 at the back seems here to stay. At least when Devitt comes back, he should add more than McCartan in that 10 role

 

Completely agree. I'd like to see Bowyer drop one of them to the bench with the option to bring them on later to shore things up if needed. Let's start believing in ourselves and having a proper good go (especially at home and against lower teams), rather than starting off terrified of losing if we don't defend in numbers.

 

Every team needs someone like Ellison, we had McMahon, and now Vaughan, although at times Vaughan goes too far yesterdays back chat to the referee was a little silly to say the least.

 

Ismail was ill.
Akpan and Devine seem to be on the rid list. Think both will move in Jan.

Mellor is ill but I am not convinced he suits this boring formation anyway.
