    Not sure which way he will go tbh.

    I’m favouring he will give the “non playing” half of the squad a go, minus the injured or injury “recovering” ( Sooty / Oscar)

    The “ main” playing half will be putting the miles in after the defeat?.

    The club think differently (see Sparks on that podcast with the Peterborough bloke who agreed with him). A run in the EFL trophy can be very lucrative and is very much the one to concentrate on as a lower league club (once in a lifetime runs like 2012/13 excepted).

    How about adding 2014/2015?
    I don’t know the full finances but until the Semi Finals, the euphemistically named Papa John’s isn’t likely to drum up much interest.
    The prize money isn’t massive.

    If we got to the third round then there is a decent prospect of the match being televised and if at home against a top half/northern Premiership club or Northern Championship, then VP would be fairly packed.

    The whole competition in its current format is an utter farce that has little to no relevance.

    Here's how it could muster a bit more interest:

    A) Kick off is usually at 7pm - a 7.45pm kick off would get more people through the turnstiles.

    B) Only the lower tier of the Main stand is open. Granted, the demand isn't there to open any more sections up, but if there was at least a choice it may garner some added interest. Open the lower Kop also.

    C) Let kids in free to all group games/early rounds with a paying adult. Incentives like this will encourage City fans to bring their kids. Market it properly too.

    D) Consider scrapping the group games altogether and revert back to a straight knock-out from Round 1. We don't need the extra games against West Brom under 21s.

    Pompey made a million off it, I’m no fan of it but money like that would be huge for the club. FA Cup you are relying on the draw and getting through a few rounds first to have hope of making half that.

    The only problem with going to a straight knock out format, is that there are 48 teams in League 1&2. It doesn’t divide down simply. So you would require a system to get it down to 32, or boosted up to 64. @Park bantam@Park bantam has commented about the lack of appeal U21 sides, which I think a lot of supporters agree with. Perhaps League 2 teams play each other in early rounds to reduce the numbers down and League 1 come in at a later stage?

    It's the under 21 team's clubs that provide most of the prize money. I'd rather do without that additional Premier League money and freshen up the competition by bringing 16 National League clubs in. 64 clubs, 16 groups of 4, with the group winners going straight into a knockout. Winners of the competition to get a play-off game with the winners of the equivalent competition in Scotland.

    That may be a very valid point but whilst it’s here there is money to be made so either play to win (the money aspect) or have no financial regrets “if only”. I think the thinking I referred to earlier indicates play to win mentality ( the money aspect).
