85th minute substitution?

Why bother Adams?

 

Here's the problem, only Sutton has energy out there so when he gets tired, the team tires. We're just retreating.

Needed the subs on early Derek. You're too risk averse unfortunately.

 

Can’t really complain against the team top of the league who have been in excellent form.

 

Was surprised Vernam didn’t come on. Robinson had a good game but was tired for the last 10-15 mins. Perhaps for at least the last 10mins his pace could have caused them issues.

Decent game - Sutton, Foulds and actually the whole back line had very decent games.

Draw fair result.

 

Another wasted 3 points. Should have been 3 ahead at half time. Need a striker who doesn't wear clogs.

 

God I hate FGR. Pathetic antics and they dragged a few of our lads down with them.

They’re a tough side but we deserved to win that. How on earth did Cook miss that tap in first half. Unbelievable miss.

 

Would have taken 4 points from last 2, disappointing all the same but a solid performance against top of the league.

 

What is worrying is two points today and Brizzle and another game at home we managed to draw lots of extra points lost ....

FGR are an embarrassment and the referee was just as bad.

Thought we competed and defended well but didn't have the quality going forwards.

Disappointed with Adams' approach in the second half. Thought we were too negative and sat too deep. Game was there to be won but we seemed happy with the point.

 

True, but if we don't beat them at home does that mean we're relying on others to beat them?

We'll say "we'll take a draw" but the problem is we've already drawn and lost others we should have won. Still struggling to see us finishing out of the 7-11th positions.

 

Agree. There's times when I wonder if Adams falls asleep and let's the game just drift by. He doesnt seem willing or able to impact the game at times in the second half and it just drifts on and we lose initiative.

 

Are we expecting to win the league with this team? If not then it doesn’t really matter about relying on others to beat them. I expect us to finish 10th and expected 4 points from the next 5 games pre Swindon so we’re doing better than I expected in that respect. Would help if Cook didn’t miss an open net as well. A Vaughan or Doyle would be on 15+ with the chances he’s wasted this season.

 

I thought so their left winger was a constant menace first half, Adam's knows what a fresh Vernnam could do yet he bring Sutton off and replaces him with Cooke, I could have understood Cooke on for Watt and Vernam on for Gilliead, as you say very risk averse, but the referee was poor today IMO.

Never seen raising expectations as a good thing. It never works out well.

 

That was a very frustrating game to watch. Cook should have scored two.
FGR still very cynical on the niggling foul falling over front, which was disappointing given their new manager is supposed to be forward looking etc.
Finally, I thought all the officials were dreadful, falling for the falling over throughout. The defending for their goal was awful but the play should have been stopped well before then. Twice the ref put his whistle to his mouth and then changed his mind. I know players have to play to the whistle, but I think it's a reasonable expectation that if the ref puts his whistle in his mouth he is going to blow it
Shame about the injury to Lavery too, he was looking lively.

 

We all got swept up in that, myself included and I even was daft enough to stick us on at the bookies. 12 games of watching them with my own eyes and I realised that was a mistake.

 

How can a striker miss from there.. its not a one off miss either. If we had a proper striker we would have been 3 up at half time and the ref wouldbt have mattered..

Need striker and keeper in January please

 

Surprised by some of the comments after today. Regardless of what we think of this league FGR are too by merit having won 65% of their games so far this season, with a great away record. First things first - don’t lose.

Secondly - give them a game. We certainly did that and should have been at least 2-0 up at HT.

Finally - be professional enough to see the game out. The goal apart, which was a questionable foul up field however plenty of opportunities to prevent after that, we defended well against a decent striker in Matt and from what I watched, limited them to very few chances.

All in all frustration is fair - we’ve done enough to win. However on reflection there were far more positives than in recent weeks. Surprised some on here are disappointed with today as I thought we gave a decent account of ourselves against a decent team on good form.

Last word on Canavan - his influence on our performance, organisation and temperament is hugely effective. One incident in 2nd half POC was mouthing off to the ref (as he does - and in this instance fairly) and likely close to talking himself into a booking. Canavan calmly strolled in diffused the situation and Paudie turned and walked away before more could have been made of it. The stability he brings is clear in the results when he’s missing, but there’s so much more to what he brings from what I see.
