No I haven’t but I get it now though. Lie about stock levels and demand to increase sales.
Same as with toilet rolls during Covid.
    Thanks for the education.

Sounds like Carrick is going to be making a lot of changes for tonight from his presser. Crooks is suspended and Van Den Berg went off injured at the weekend, couple of players coming back from injury but he says its too soon for them. Boro also use a 'cup-keeper' so there will be a change and Tom Glover will be in goal. Aussie keeper with A-League experience and the 2 previous cup rounds to his name and conceded 3 goals in those 2 games against Bolton and Huddersfield.

The disrespect of this cup competition is why it’s meaningless until the semis.
Even Accy Stanley and Wrexham felt it necessary to field weakened teams.

There's almost zero chance of them winning it so why wouldn't they? Especially Wrexham who clearly don't need the few extra quid from a fortunate plum tie draw.

Well there’s zero chance of Newcastle winning the UCL so maybe they’ll put kids in against PSG etc.
    Don’t talk wet.

It was fantastic RT…what a night, but not as good as the win AT Everton in the cup perhaps?

Actually, Newcastle are 10th favourites to win the competition with Paddy Power at 33/1.

I very much doubt Accrington and Wrexham would have been anywhere near 10th favourites for the league cup.

Absolutely. I loved the home game but that away win in the cup just about pips it for me. If for nothing else than THAT Waddle goal.

Plus there is millions of pounds at stake for winning even the one group game in the UCL.

Probably 10x less than that for winning the entire EFL cup.

In fact, this cup is literally just a gimmick to earn extra sponsorship revenue for the EFL. It's the equivalent of the EFL trophy but for Championship & Prem clubs.

Pretty pointless until the final to be honest.

isnt the prize money for winning tonight around the £10000 mark and we got £5k and £7.5k for the last 2 rounds.
might pay the wage bill for a week, if we are lucky.

Newcastle can make a lot of money from getting far in the competition not just from prize money but also from sponsorship which will help with their FFP and also in future tournaments if they qualify it will help their ranking to be higher seeds. For clubs in league 1 and 2 the league cup is 2nd bottom in the priority and the in the Championship it is the lowest priority. Unless you can draw a big club away there isn't massive money to be made. Most fans are also not that bothered as shown in the attendances whereas Champions League will always sell out

Don’t forget to add in a limited time period as well. Classic sales strategy. Create a fear of losing out.
Been successfully used for generations across the world. It’s proven to work.

Absolute tosh IMO. How much joy did our journey to the final bring to so many people associated with the club?? Despite the one-sided final (which we all fully expected btw) I wouldn't forfeit those memories for anything in the world considering the dross we'd had to endure up until that point since dropping out of the prem league

    You've completely missed the point.

Of course the run to the final was enjoyable, why would anyone say it wasn't?

It's a huge part of the income for the EFL in the TV rights as the league cup makes up two thirds of the value and it's why they give teams more for being on TV that prize money. If the EFL Cup goes then the gap between the premier league and EFL only widens with EFL payments to clubs slashed

It's cup football, a favourable draw, an opponent not quite firing, a dodgy refereeing decision and anything can happen, including Wrexham getting to the final (if we hadn't already knocked them ou).

Improbable, absolutely, impossible, no. We proved that. Strap in and enjoy the ride, there will a maximum of 12 PL clubs in Round 4, and a minimum of 5.

Beat Boro, then draw Salford at home in Round 4 and we could be on the verge of something magical again. Even if a mauling in the final was on the cards.

It's not impossible for all the PL teams to get drawn against each other in the next round, and then Round 5 is the quarters.

Yes we were dead in-line with him on the upper deck of the stand by the half way line. Front row. Nearly fell over the edge Dave. What a day and will always stick in the memory.

I've said this before but when the ball dropped to him I shouted, 'Hit it Chrissy' and of course he did. But it was all because of the encouragement I gave him. Never did get any credit for it...;)
