    Unless some of those on existing City Contracts leave, then I guess the budget must be close to being allocated to the players we have on the books. So would there be much point. I would have thought trialists would be looking to play where there was a real opportunity of gaining a contract.

    I would anticipate that 'higher' quality free agents would be more likely to go on trial to clubs where they would be able to get a good contract and game time. If we have very few slots and spare cash, then l would have thought that would act as a deterrent. In respect of the transfer window, l thought that did not apply to free agents. We brought in Caddis after the transfer window closed last season.

    That's the point I'm making? Have a look at them now and if we don't manage the targets we wanted before the deadline then some of these lads could be good fall back options if they are still available.

    Otherwise we'd have to bring them in to have a look before we decided if they are with a contract offer or not.

    What if we don't move people on until mid August? Should we hurriedly start trying to arrange midweek trial games to look at these players or do you think it would be better to have a few in now so that we are already prepared in the event we move players out?

    Until he gets rid of them, I can’t see them not involved. Unless he’s planning on playing 1st team players on Saturday and reserves on Tuesday, I’m not sure how all the players will get game time.

    For example, @Asafa@Asafa has listed 2 teams and neither include the likes of Riley, Patrick, Colville, Sykes-Kenworthy, Goldthorp, or any of the other youth players retained. Surely we would pick those boys before we play trialists?

    It depends on which of the trialist have impressed and are under serious consideration. With two different teams one in each half there is scope for the odd trialist

    Agreed but the odd trialist is one or two which is reasonable as opposed to previous years where we have 5-10 trialists playing in preseason games.
