Simply because I suspect we have spent quite a lot of the budget already.

If a few leave then I can see 1 or 2 trialists coming but GB seems to know who/what he wants.

What if we don't move people on until mid August? Should we hurriedly start trying to arrange midweek trial games to look at these players or do you think it would be better to have a few in now so that we are already prepared in the event we move players out?

Wonder which player will win the award for massively inflated expectations based on a reasonable 45 minutes against Guiseley, the Tim Dieng cup

Until he gets rid of them, I can’t see them not involved. Unless he’s planning on playing 1st team players on Saturday and reserves on Tuesday, I’m not sure how all the players will get game time.

For example, @Asafa has listed 2 teams and neither include the likes of Riley, Patrick, Colville, Sykes-Kenworthy, Goldthorp, or any of the other youth players retained. Surely we would pick those boys before we play trialists?

I'd say these players have to be given gametime, purely to put them in the shop window.

If the budget can stretch to bringing more in now then of course we should.
If the club can afford to gamble on a few leaving that is.

I thought we were talking about trialists? It shouldn't affect the budget at all, unless trialists demand a match fee these days?

I’d be surprised to see more than 1 or 2 trialists for this game. Our squad is pretty full, bar a couple of midfielders so there doesn’t seem to be much point of taking anyone on trial unless there is a departure in the near term. Considering we’ve signed an entirely new back 5 and strikeforce, midfield seems to be the only place that there is likely to be any movement in or out.

Agree. We have 26 (27 if Colville signs) so this must be close to a full squad.

I would assume that Bowyer will have targets identified if any of the existing squad leaves.

Rather than give game time to players who are unlikely to sign, then it seems to make sense to give opportunities for our existing squad, to get experience of playing together.

It depends on which of the trialist have impressed and are under serious consideration. With two different teams one in each half there is scope for the odd trialist

Agreed but the odd trialist is one or two which is reasonable as opposed to previous years where we have 5-10 trialists playing in preseason games.

The main objective has to be squad fitness and permeating a 1st eleven. No doubt GB will want to trial systems and for his players to gel together under match conditions. I think this pre-season we will see a more structured approach building our shape as we progress towards the start.
