BigBappé was quality, Griezmann, however, was trash.

 

Don't want to get away from the thread and spoil certain fans from expressing their disappointment at losing a pre season game and be able to have a cheeky dig at the clueless managers but I thought Griezmann was effective without really creating many chances. Pogba, Kante, Varane and Mbappe were by far the best players for France last night.

 

I know Akpan and Reeves were missing, but there does seem to be an alarming lack of quality and depth in midfield, and up front in the squad at the moment.
I don't know if it was because of a lack of player availability last night, but I hope we don't adapt the 4-4-1-1 formation this season. 3-5-2 or 4-3-3 please.

 

Yeah Varane and Kante were very good, maybe I focussed too much on Griezmann's set piece delivery then, because that was piss poor!

Hardly a classic, but even with the quality France have in midfield and up front I don't think their defece is owt special, get past Croatia tonight and its anyones game in the Final.

 

Apart from the corner for the goal the set piece's were very poor, especially Belgium's. I don't think he's the main focus in the team, despite being a very good player. It's almost like they give it to Pogba, he picks out Mbappe and he runs.

 

They were very good last night. Centre halfes defended very well and te full backs got forward at every opportunity but defended well too, Hazard had to move out of postion to influence the game. Really rate the right back Pavard.

 

I said as much to Debbie at the weekend when she asked whom I'd prefer to play (France or Belgium). For all France are a force on the offensive, Belgium were more resilient defensively, IMO.

In a fairly short post you used the word 'defended' twice which is basically what they were - defensive. Score a goal and sit back. Defend. Dull. After scoring the only chances that came were on the counter attack.

 

I used the word defended because I was replying to Bronco's post about the defence. They did defend extremley well but that doesn't mean they played defensively.

Without looking at the stats I'd guess France had more shots than Belgium, yes they played offensively but Belgium never really threatened. I thought France played the game extremely well, soaked up the play and broke, with lightening pace when needed. Got the goal and won. Job done.

 

I won't be at pre season.
