I quite like the young lads show boating. I think it demonstrates confidence in their own ability. Yes they may well come a cropper and subsequently the team, but they will learn, but let’s not try squash enthusiasm and development of their technical skills. I dare say it did wind up the opposition, but who cares about that. We need as much positivity as we can manage going forward.

Reading this thread it makes me wonder how we werent hammered tonight!!
Oyegoke, Smith, Ofoka, Osadebe, Richards etc... all deemed shit.. What the hell is wrong with some of you people.
A virtual second string out there tonight, many rusty through lack of game time many still shell-shocked from joining a club where the culture was negativity masked as safety first .
They all tried hard tonight, all slowly gaining confidence and match fitness.
Manny had a great pre-season until some shit-house snapped his leg, and come back better he will.
And I'll say now Smith and Osadebe come new year, will be important parts of this team.
Feel free to tell me Im wrong in January -

Osadebe is better than Ronaldo. I always said that! Give him a new contract

I don't get the hatred with Manny.
Have him picking it up out wide and running at defenders I think he's great.
Wrexham away he played well, Saturday when he came on down the left he cut inside and hit a great shot inches wide.
I think because Hughes tried him as a holding midfielder in the 2 he failed.
But we know now, especially as Hughes put Oyegoke in that role, that he didn't have a fecking clue. -

One thing that McDonald and co deserve credit for is executing a game plan. On Saturday, we limited their wide centre-backs and removed them from the game for large periods which must have been tactical, so the management team must have done their homework. Tonight, we are clearly using the pace and placing diagonal balls for the wide players and Smith to run on to, which again seems to be a tactic where we have looked at how they play.
Under Hughes, we just did the same thing every single game, regardless of what the opposition did. Even though this game means very little, the effort from the lads has been obvious to see. Very impressed with McDonald and coTony Wilkinson, Bantam75, Jayteebee and 5 others like this. -
I though Halliday had another very good game has to be in with a chance of MOTM our young uns need to stop showboating at the end, little wonder some of the Grimsby stuff was uncalled for, do your step over after you've done something, but overall a satisfactory result and performance.

Stupid sending off, but very pleased for Osadebe - who was becoming the latest player that we just get impatient with two quickly.
No player is going to be firing on all cylinders after that injury. There must be lots of self doubt and with that means fewer first team opportunities, which leads to less match fitness, which leads to over anxious performances when you come on.
Hopefully, that settles him down as there are signs of the player who had a very good second half to the season at Walsall before he joined us.
Again, you wonder about Hughes motivational skills as I thought Osadebe looked ten times better than he ever has on Saturday (yes, I know that's not hard!!)Bronco, Hampshire Bantam, CT Bantam and 5 others like this. -
This is a good win, because essentially it's a fancy training session. Gets minutes in legs of players that haven't played, some established players get to continue momentum and there was a win at the end which is great for everyone. There's a lot to be said for winning regardless of the competition.

No sponsor, so reduced prize money this season. These seem to be this season's figures:
Participation fee £20,000
Each group game win = £8,000 (draw = £4,000)
2nd round win £15,000
3rd round win £29,500
Quarter final win £40,000
Semi final - no prize money, but each club gets a £20,000 facility fee for Sky TV coverage
Winner gets £84,000 (Runner up gets £42,000)
So, adding it all up, winning every match through to, and including the final, would bring in £212,500 in participation and prize money, plus £20,000 TV money.Stop hovering to collapse... Our reserves dominated a team in our league tonight. Good performance and a great result from the young lads. MOTM for me was Taylor. Looking forward to Saturday now
