    It will be interesting to see what kind of team we will put out for this with such a busy schedule coming up and now Tomkinson away on international duty.

    With the strange way the fixture are everyone else has played 2 games already so we will know what we have to do to qualify. With £10k for a each win in the group stages I'd like to see us not go too week and try to qualify and with the results so far a win in 90 tomorrow and any win against Man City sees us through although I do expect a quite a few changes. If I was McDonald I would give myself a start to keep some minutes in the legs and give one of Gilliead or Smallwood a rest ahead of the next few games but I don't think he will.

    I can see this being the team:
    Lewis
    Oyegoke - Stubbs - Taylor - Kelly
    Gilliead - Smallwood
    Wilson - Osadebe - Afoka
    Smith

    This is assuming the likes of Tulloch and Oduor are still unavailable.

    I’d like to see us go for it just purely for a confidence boost.
    Don’t really give a hoot about the competition but 2 wins on the trot would be grand.

    Even more reason to go and get a win tomorrow night then we know a win against Man City qualifies us then we can do a full rotation against Barnsley

    Usually every team in this thing rotates a large chunk of their team, can't imagine we'll be any different. Grimsby made 8 changes in their last EFL trophy game against Barnsley.

    I'd start every outfielder who was on the bench, rest guys like Stubbs and Walker. Wonder if its too early for Chapman and Oliver?

    I'd let Pointon play, as he hasn't been overloaded with game time.

    But then we should rest anyone who has even a slight complaint or injury.

    Wouldn't mind if Kev started himself.

    It's a friendly though and couldn't care less about the result.

    I forget the exact rule re numbers of previous and next game, but Id go with:

    Simple 442. Let Trueman take care of the first half, then Macdonald can sub himself at HT if he wants to use the opportunity of viewing part of the game from the dugout.

    I agree that McDonald should start. If he is to remain a player he needs to be as match fit as possible when a new manager comes in, assuming someone else is appointed.

    McDonald has already hinted he will play, probably in place of Smallwood.

    Doyle or Richardson to start for me. We need to know if we have reasonable cover if Lewis gets injured or suspended

    I'd like to see Richardson given some game time. I think it’s something like 3 years since Doyle played a competitive match and whilst I've no doubt he'd do a job for us if called upon, I'd rather give a chance to a prospect than a player whose best days are well behind him.

    Would like to see Cook rested but other than that, not really bothered who plays. Just hope we thrash them as their fans were piping up after the draw in the league, saying it was arrogant of us to expect to beat them at Valley Parade. Don't think its arrogant to expect your team to try win every home tbh. These are bang average even at full strength, so if they’ve injuries let’s look to batter them at their plaice too.

    The rule is very hard to fail, we only need 4 outfield players who meet at least 1 of the criteria. From our current first team squad I think only Rowe and Youmbi fail to meet 1 of the criteria so unless we play the u19s it will be impossible for us to not meet the requirements.
    Qualifying Player means any Player who:
    1. had started the immediately preceding First Team Fixture (as defined below);

    2. subsequently starts the immediately following First Team Fixture;

    3. is in the list of ten Players at the Club with the highest number of starting appearances in First Team Fixtures in the same Season;

    4. has made forty or more starting appearances in First Team Fixtures or international equivalents (and not limited to the same Club or Season); or

    5. is on standard loan from a Premier League Club or any EFL Club operating a Category One Academy.

    I think we’ll rotate less than people are expecting.

    not sure what McDonald’s stance is, but if he enjoyed Sat and wants to be considered for the job we need a repeat performance from Sat, and to win. Get some momentum, finally

    i think he’ll be tempted to go with….
