I'm not sure Novak and Donaldson can play together, they're two of the same player with the same obvious deficiencies. Should be one of them, with McCartan or Devitt behind. That said, I though Novak was by far the better of the two today.

Pritchard isn't a winger either, looked uncomfortable.

Enjoyable game though, much much better than the crap Bowyer served up. Draw probably fair. You can see Stuart has inherited a team who are uncomfortable in possession so it will take him some time to change the mentality.

 

The problem with Novak and Donaldson is that they're never going to run behind. We need our wide men to be able to get us up the pitch. Connolly is rapid, and you cant fault his work rate. But he's shit with a football.

 

I don't think Pritchard will work out under Stuart.

I was a little surprised Holloway took Clarke and then Whitehouse I though they both played a big part in Grimsby's attacking moves.

 

Fair result. Not enough created but a better press, movement and desire. Decent attributes to work at. But it's the reality, Henley is still Henley.

Have to say I loved the Grimsby celebrations. Proper limbs moments.

 

DMH looked good, knows how to cross, just a shame none of these strikers know to get in front of their man

Not sure about DMH, Connolly with a poorer first touch.

 

That was some celebration in the away end, bodies everywhere in the Midland Road.

 

I think you'd struggle to se a worse first touch than Connolly's today. To be fair is usually poor but today was awful. Full back had every time.

 

That's the perfect description. Just as eager and endearing too. But we need better.

If only Ismail could stay fit.

The reality is, you'd look at DMH, Akpan, Devine, Anderson, Connolly, Ismail, McCartan and probably Reeves too, and trade them for 4 quality players.

Massive overhaul needed in the summer.

If Stuart gets playoff then great. But for me, the rest of this season is about laying the groundwork for next.

People were saying sign Connolly up - No, no, no he lacks quality and end product. He's not good enough and I don't think McCall was too impressed with him.

 

Forget Connollys touch, his crosses were like homing missiles targeted at the first defender.

 

I said a while ago the guy makes Kyle Reid look productive, don’t see what some on here see in him.

But tbf I don’t see what some see in our squad as a whole, it’s massively overrated. It’s never going to be as simple as Bowyer leaving and ya flying up the league.

All that said for the terrible quality, at least it was enjoyable first time in a long time. Not Stuart’s fault but it’ll take a miracle imo to get this lot promoted, feck knows where the goals are coming from.

 

True. But at least there were more balls Into the box. And the players had license to have a go when in range (even if the shots were appalling). Definitely more positive

Not giving up on this season as yet, no chance but from today I would be looking to ship out Everton, Harry, Connolly and Henley from the 1st team.

From the squad I think come the end of the season Reeves, Cooke, Taylor, Connolly, Anderson, Donaldson, Devine, McCartan, Devitt, Akpan, Ismal will all leave.

We do have a massive summer ahead but hopefully players will start to step up.

 

Like McCall says we lack quality though.
