If there was objectivity to begin with there would be very little point in bringing up the widescale double standards/hypocrisy taking place in the first place, mainly because it wouldn't exist. The fact that it does, is clearly widespread, and for the majority seems to be influenced entirely by political agenda as opposed to the topic in hand if anything backs up entirely what you're saying.

Truth is, we all have political bias to some degree, i know I do. Most of us at some point or another also contradict ourselves, I'm sure I've done this on many occasions. Others though let certain agendas dictate every single opinion they hold, and object to this girl for reasons completely unrelated to her work on climate change.

There's literally zero reason for anyone to be offended at bringing this issue up, and the only way it can overcome is to point the problem out, tackle it head on and individuals, on all sides of the political spectrum, accepting accountability for themselves when applicable. When that happens, the well reasoned debate you're clearly an advocate for will become slightly more commonplace.

Agreed. She'll never know what it feels like to run on the pitch after a late goal against Carlisle.

While she may be a long way from achieving her objective, she has come a long way in a short space of time.

Listened to by the world's leaders, appearing on the cover of Time magazine and now having her own thread on Bantam Talk. Go Greta go.

You’d be surprised what young people are capable of. For all the denigration of the youth of today, there are some fantastically talented children out there. We are going to need them to sort out the mess our generations leave behind.

The "more you hear from her" or the more you hear from "the message"?

Don't get me wrong, I admire her strength for standing up and trying to make a difference but unfortunately, the more public attention she gains, the more of a media circus it becomes and with that the higher possibility of outside influences taking control.

In short, I wonder just how much control she has of her initial message anymore.

Well the message is the same. It hasn’t changed. The climate is in meltdown and action needs to be taken.

I agree that the media love to get carried away but I suppose it’s got a lot of people talking about the environment and climate change which will hopefully lead to positive change.

I would love to know what she and her family do differently to the rest of the world to help the planet. Maybe I have missed that from her?

It’s not a question of guilt. It’s just about making a conscious effort to change habits in order to benefit the broader effort of climate change. At the end of the day though, we are only small pawns in this, the most effective action we can take is working to get climate change at the front of global political agendas and that we elect governments that are focussed on the issue.

    Not really.

They just understand the damage that pollution does and that continuing to plunder the Earth's resources, as we do now, is not sustainable.

There was far more pollution in the 50's and 60's, look at any pics from that era along with London smogs.....
This creepy lot are not concerned with climate change, more like de-industrialisation and taking us back to the stone age and it appears that you have fallen for it, sorry , but they really are just anarchists against modern living and I for one couldn't care less for them...

And what you refer to in London, as I also did in my post above, is what is now standard living for millions if not billions across the world. How can that be right?

I really don't see it as de-industrialisation. It is about how we live in a way that causes the least detrimental impact upon people. That means harnessing new technologies but also challenging the way we live, rather than I'm alright jack and sod everyone else.

I tell you, it's more about de-industrialisation than any climate change bullshit, she, like the rest of us will be long gone before there are any serious issues on this matter, many more than the 11/12 years that these indoctrinated kids are being taught.
And no, she's not getting me riled up, it's just disappointing and sad......

Many people don’t want to make changes, and especially if they are being told by a teenager. Yet, we see how inept some grown ups can be at running things and we get told constantly how politicians are all apparently liars etc, no doubt by the same people. So it crosses age boundaries, still i think many do ‘listen’ more to them secretly, than they claim.

I think it boils down to many just not wanting to make sacrifices for the benefit of other people. I find it hard to understand how some individuals don’t think people are having a negative influence on this planet and that it can just cope with anything we throw at it. But that’s largely it, we think we are above everyone else, but we are not. We think humans can solve everything. I do worry for what the future will be like for my kids, and there’s this teenager who thinks like that too. I can’t really blame her. I can’t help think we are closing the stable door after the horse has bolted tbh, but I applaud her for speaking passionately about what she believes in. Yes people can make changes, but ultimately it’s the big industries and new cleaner mass market technology that would make a bigger impact, it’s such a complex issue tbh but small steps forward and acknowledging the problem are a step in the right direction.
