TBF to McCall, when he was going through that tough spell, we had a decimated squad for the majority of it. No full-backs, a player ‘on strike’ (allegedly) and injuries to several key players. At least Grayson has pretty much had a full squad to choose from, something McCall didn’t have for most of January

He took a striker of on Tuesday to replace a striker and we won it. Shrewsbury had to win the game to stand a chance of automatic
promotion we played well and should have won overall

We did play well against Shrews. I’ll give you that. But “should have won overall”? Take the rose tints off Park. Their chances were just as good as ours. Even with 10 players, they looked as likely to win than us.

Admittedly, he changed the game last Tuesday when taking off a striker for an attacking midfielder. Some would argue we had been playing with 10 up until this point anyway, so bringing on Lund for Brunkner, helped us.

    ;)

Thats actually all bang on the money. I know we haven't got the best of squads but at least he could play members of the squad in their actual positions they are most accustomed to.

It’s becoming a habit (that you will like and get used to if you stop fighting it :D) of you agreeing with me.

    Nail on head.

It doesn’t take a genius to work out that the same players are going to produce the same performances, not forgetting the supposed off the field issues which caused very low morale.
Pep Guardiola wouldn’t have picked up results with us between Jan and March.

Grayson is slowly but surely starting to turn the tanker around. 3 unbeaten now. That alone based on where we were after Blackpool is nothing short of amazing.

Has anybody seen his pre-match video?

This is an observation not a rumour: He looked down, no smiles unlike his previous videos. Words were the same, but he looked anything but upbeat.

My point was, and always will be, with McCall that he was a good time manager because of the spirit he created in the camp with his "all lads together" attitude. That works when the going is good but crashes and burns when the going get bad. Long term success will be hard to achieve with a bunch of drinking mates, whereas it will be easier to achieve with a "proper" football manager who treats sports science and diet with the respect they deserve in the modern game (like Parky always does).

From that perspective the "dinosaurs" are the likes of Stuart & Lee Clarke and the professionals are the managers who let their number two play the "one of the lads" roles. Football is littered with examples of great coaches (Stuart being one) whose nature and personality didn't allow them to be the modern professional manager that is needed to be a long term success. Ultimately it's why Jurgen Klopp will never win the Premier League, but David Wagner might (just not with Huddersfield).

Einstein's definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over again in the same way and expecting a different result. Grayson has been trying to see how the players he inherited fit into different patterns and has (it appears) come up with a better formula. Same players, different approach.

Had Stuart stayed I worry we might have finished in the bottom half, under Grayson I think we'll finish between 8th & 10th, and on the basis that he gets backed next season I'm increasingly more optimistic than I was at the end of February.

It could come down to how big his transfer budget would be and if he’s allowed to spend it.

Nice to see that nothing changes from the good old C&B days. Still plenty of excuses going around for McCall.

In terms of Grayson. I wouldn't appoint him based on his results here. Fortunately for him his capabilities as a manager go beyond the last 15 results.

He's got a record of success at this level and his priorities seem like the ones you need to be successful at this level. If we keep him on then it will be based on those things, not necessarily the recent results which is fair enough.

It reminds me very much of the season Parkinson took over from Jackson. Everybody up in arms because a manager with a link to the club had been replaced by a pragmatic outsider and results didn't dramatically improve straight away. The platform and the principles we were going to be built on were there underneath the results though.

If he goes to Scunthorpe it will cause mayhem on here
