Never forget GR in his green Bentley on the motorway to away games waving to city fans like some sort of lord muck acknowledging his subjects.

Wouldn't swap those 2 seasons for anything.

Richmond was a hero. Very resourceful considering what he achieved here, having put in so little of his own money.

You’ve just got to admire the blokes ambition, desire, persistence and bare-faced cheek.

he could sell snow to the eskimos, that bloke.

Taking City from being the bang average club that we are and getting us to the big time - and keeping us there - was the equivalent of me pulling Shakira on a night out. Mind bogglingly impossible…..but GR made it happen for City.

i remember going down to VP for the Press Conference in the Kop when Carbone signed. Magical times.

Mate, there is only one game I missed which rankles. Chelsea away! Despite going to the Halifax, Dartford, Milwall (away and home) I missed out yet, none season ticket holders got them!
Although I am fairly low down the current loyalty scheme, I think it is a fair process for dishing out tickets.

P.S I was at Old Trafford in 2000!

yep the 2nd season was amazing getting pumped 6-1 at Elland Rd was a real joy to see ............. honestly you would think that it was GR who got us into the PL without any help at all ............ had he been left to run the football side of things we would never have got there ............ was it him that masterminded that epic comeback at Blackpool ?????? Was it him who kept us in the Championship ??? Was it down to him that we got to the PL and stayed there ??????? No was it hell as soon as he decided he knew best then that was it ............Jewell was asked about Isaiah Rankin he said to Richmond bid 60k but no more than 200k only to be informed that he had already agreed a million :( honestly you can go all on about the Premier it was hollow full of hollow bandwagon jumpers ............ averaging 5k in 1996 only for it to jump up to 18k 3 years later ......... brilliant all there singing City till I die when beating Chelsea 2-0 all 18k of them yet 4 years later around the same time of year we played Peterborough in front of 6k that’s how hollow it was ............... as for Richmond would the same folk lording over him have the same feelings had the club gone bust ?????? He knew in 2000 that the club was in bother probably knowing that was running up millions of pounds worth of debt but it didn’t stop him and his family taking money out did it ?????? And when asked to put that money back in when the club hit Admin in 2002 what did he do ????? He refused ............ still must be me folk had the time of there lives for two seasons in the PL but the result of all that was a huge decline not owning our ground and nearly going under ........... was it worth it ????? Really

The biggest mistake Richmond made was falling out with Jewell. Yes, ours was a castle build on sand, but if we had a competent manager in that second season we might not have capitulated to the same extent.

jewell seemed to keep GR in check in that first season. There’s no doubt GR was an absolute nutter. However, as Elliott Carver states in Tomorrow Never Dies, the difference between insanity and genius is measured only by success. It’s right.

A Chairman like Rhodes - mr sensible - would never have taken us to the PL. GR thought outside the box.

Time were different back then and the penalties weren’t as harsh for going into admin. We survived in the end, and while it ensured a long period of misery thereafter, much of that has been self inflicted by poor appointments by the powers that be. People use GR as a scapegoat for everything but should let it go.

It was complete plagiarism and solicitously nicked from Mr. McCall, whom I recall taking about our premier league stint one time.

Can never take those memories away from us can they.

imagine being a [insert any club name from L2] fan…..telling the grandkids about the day you beat [insert random team] in the third round of the FA Cup!

We made proper memories, and GR played a big part in creating them.

    Henry
    Viera
    Bergkamp
    Scholes
    Giggs
    Beckham
    Keane
    Ginola
    Zola
    Lampard
    Di Canio
    Gerrard
A dozen names of some of the best footballers who have ever graced the Premier league.

And I’ve seen them all from my seat.
    Against our club.
    At our ground.

    Not in random cup games.
    Week in,week out.

Admittedly we got spanked by some of them and we may not see this level of opposition player for a while, but I’ll always have those memories.

Plus a bit of excitement with wins over some great sides as opposed to celebrating with a gallon after a score draw with Crawley.

To be fair, there were quite a few people who doubted the wisdom of it at the time. Not that I was one of them.

Really good point about Wetherall';s winner against the Pool. We could have recouped in the Championship. But hey ho, it was for a time, utterly thrilling. My wife, who's from Wolverhampton and a Wolves fan, and our at the time very young kids had booked a holiday in Mallorca without checking the final game date, and ended up watching the promotion match live on Spanish TV in a restaurant with four waiters and a chef who became Bradford City fans for the day - they went crazy on the final whistle and I wasn't allowed to pay for a thing. Great day.

And lest we forget those two mighty f*** off stands that make our ground the envy of many were Richmond's dream.

I get ppl disagree, but do we have to insult our fellow City fans on this forum?

But hard to know whether I'd give up the magic of beating Wigan, Arsenal and Villa from L2, and the ecstacy of that 2nd half at Stamford Bridge, for stability in the 2nd tier. I'm not sure I would.

You're right. And after that Wethers header went in and the final whistle blew, I don't think I have ever been more deliriously happy inside Valley Parade. But hey ho, on we go. Could be on our way up again
