We're in agreement then. My comments was aimed at those who thinks he has a free pass plus Bowyer's own comments about needing 3 transfer windows etc.

I wasn't enamored with GB last season, because we really were poor, but there was mitigating reasons for that that are very well documented, so I'm not going to judge him just yet, and I think Saturday was an encouraging start.

granted, if he doesn't get us challenging this season at least for the play offs then he will have failed and will be time to think about a change.
lets see how we get on.

Of course he can. He signed another keeper but chose O’Donnell. He signed another right-back but selected Mellor. He has French but chose to start AO’C. I’m not saying his decisions were wrong, but to say he had no choice is wrong. Do you really believe he will start Ishmael over Doyle or Scannell?

That formation worked in pre season which informed his decision to use it here. Fairly straight forward thinking. It didn't work here however so I imagine we won't use it again for a while, especially if we have injured players like Ismail back to give us more options. As it happens I suspect if we do play 4-4-2, it will be with one winger and one wide midfielder.

Frankly he deserves time for the simple fact is if we start sacking managers again, we will go down no two ways about it.I also don't want our club to operate that way as it's just not sustainable at our level. From the level of effort and commitment shown at Cambridge he has the dressing room firmly playing for him, I mean he's even got Gibson putting himself about and flying into tackles.

Did it work though? In what games can you put your hand on your heart and claim it worked?

We were comfortably beaten by what was effectively a Liverpool u23 team. First half in particular was poor. We got beaten 2-1 by a patched up Bolton side. In fact we have managed 2 goals from open play since the boys came back from their summer break

    No, Marshy, NO .......

Bowyer wasted two games playing 'never hopeful trialists', and has since blamed the second non played 45 minutes against Rochdale as our 'down fall'.
IF, yes IF you are relying on your last friendly to get things right, and it doesn't work out - You have problems.
Add to that a full 'sick bay' already, what about the net 9 months ? ,,,,,, No wonder squads now number 40+

Our opener showed Supporters an average team, and also Bowyers (non) ability to promote us to Lge 1.
Two quality players needed now ! And also a better mindset from Bowyer.

Crikey, he displayed an inability to get us promoted?

If we hammer Grimsby 3-0 under similar circumstances, I sure hope you're going to stick to your theory that dominating games isn't going to get us promoted.

Can't tell if your being sarcastic or not.

The trialist games (BPA & Ossett I assume) are and always have been nothing games that have always been full of trialists.
    Full sick bay? Really
2 quality players will turn an average team into a promotion team???
Bowyer didn't blame the Rochdale game on our down fall, he said that fitness levels and togetherness would have benefited from playing it.

Ronnie has to be trying to be sarcastic in that post. If not it's going to be a long hard season for him.

True, but you could also argue that they were beaten by A.F.C. Fylde before they played us. Swings and roundabouts I suppose.

Fact remains though, we still haven’t scored from open play since that 2-0 OPENING pre-season game at Guiseley.

It's a bit of a concern, and I'm worried Vaughan and Donaldson are just too similar to make a really dangerous strike partnership.

Far too much hype over their potential when people are predicting one or both will score 20+ this season.

Still, they aren't our worst players.

Sadly, we are shackled with some right baba.

Come on, Jon ..... You KNOW what I was actually saying ;)

Domination is nothing, without 'penetration', which City lacked aplenty against Cambridge.
Should we beat Grimsby ? - I'll be high as a kite, like everyone else :)
I want a Win, but suspect another Draw ..... Just another day of slow progress, huh ?

Not sarcastic at all, my friend.
However your last line says what I did (almost).

As for games full of trialists ? NEVER have I seen this before, the odd three or four, perhaps.
Regarding the Rochdale game - I stand by what I said. City should have been ready and fully loaded for Cambridge.
