Even if this parsimonious Government will not give a % based pay rise, then the very least they could do is to give all NHS staff a ‘one off’ Covid-19 Bonus payment. Say a flat £1,000 per person irrespective of grade/job etc.
According to the NHS own website then the NHS, has 1,169,045 FTE in July 2020. This is 6.4% (69,901) more than in July 2019. So going back to the bus and the figures which helped some people of £350000000 then it is the equivalent of about 3 days money to the EU. Following Brexit, then surely this Government could recognise and reward NHS staff.

I guess that if the system allows organisations to ‘Furlough’ staff, and if is within the rules, then it really doesn’t matter what we think of the ethics. The EFL and the FA are the governing bodies, they could also express a view. If one club does it, then others could well follow.

All front line staff for sure. My wife's friend or her direct boss simon Stevens really don't need a one off bonus on their six figure salaries.
