Loved Yeadon Tarn back in the mid 70s some clonking Perch on livebait minnows from the wooden jetty by the youth club
Not sure what happened to them they seemed to disappear overnight
Once remember catching a Barbel in there never heard of another since
You are right about sitting on fishing baskets not the comfiest but catching those massive "stripeys" I didn't care
Couldn't do it nowadays am spoilt with my reclining fully padded Carp fishing chair

I think many kids started their fishing adventures there. I don't know if its because I was smaller but yes some of those perch seemed massive. From memory I think a nationwide disease pretty much wiped out the still water perch population. Like yourself fished off the jetty or just round to the left past that little connected island thing

Pilley’s dam, ( way back in mid 60’s) caught my first ever fish, a gudgeon. Next venue was the “Blue Lagoon” On way to Calverley from Thornbury, always plenty of people fishing but I never caught anything there.

Anyone else admit to a short lived fad of fishing Peel Park pond. There were some seriously big goldfish in there! Allegedly unwanted prizes from the fair released into the pond. Never caught a coconut though :grinning:

Well, not fishing but when I was at St. George’s, we took some kayaks over and had a paddle about. That must be about 50 years ago. Not even sure who the teacher would have been.

Definitely towards the back end of the 70s I'd say.
