It's looking like it could be a lot worse for sports clubs than initially projected, I wonder how many teams in the football league were banking on the return of fans in October? Gillingham's Chairman was saying that they will be bankrupt by Christmas if the current state of affairs continues.

Forget about expecting promotion this season, we are living game to game. The first priority is survival as a club. If we can win promotion then great, but who knows what the football league will look like in twelve months time.

My god - people are now happy just to exist!
I wrote a fairly lengthy response (by my standards), but I’ll just leave it here and keep shaking my head in disbelief.

With no assets make no mistake about Bradford City are in trouble.

I've said time after time that this club needed to protect itself to get assets but we have no assets on and off the pitch.

Rupp better get his money out.

And that could prove to be the final nail in the coffin.
If the shit really does hit the fan , and its looking more likely by the day. Hopefully with our apparent under budget spend, we may yet be better off than most.
Good planning or just tight fisted ?

Mr Rupp will have have to follow the lead of plenty of small business owners and use his own personal wealth to keep the club afloat or risk losing all of his initial investment I dare say when he bought the club he was prepared to take the profit it's a two way thing. The club have no assets to loan against so it's all on his reported personal fortune From what I have seen the interest alone on his reported wealth more than covers what the club are projecting to lose with this latest round of restrictions
It's getting close to the time when we find if he has any committment to the club or not

Had nothing to do with good planning.

I think Rupp has LOANED his 1.5m already so the club was always going to not have a big window because we have no assets to get that 1.5m back.

It felt to me we were hiding behind the salary cap as a excuse not to do real good business but not as I say we are in deep, deep trouble. Most clubs will be in deep trouble but those without assets can't offset.

500k losses is more like 1m....

To be honest this government at blame for this. They showed the carrot but had no intention of handing it. To be fair to Bradford City and other clubs they have done everything that the government have asked clubs and spent loads to get the ground covid secure.

The government needs to support clubs if no fans for 6 months. Boris Johnson needs to start stepping up because he is one sh& t leader! 14 m messed up voting for that joker! Get him out!

I have read it twice and still can’t get my head around it. They were banking on the season ticket holders to pay double even though they should have been able to get to see every home game in some way for 150 quid?
    Talk about backwards.
I’d say stop crying to the press and push a big drive on shirt sales, merchandise on every channel they can. Push the ifollow passes to everyone. Go though the old email list And people might pay for the odd game. Let’s think outside the box a little and plug as much of this gap as we can

The comments of the Gillingham chairman just about sums up football, states that if things don't change we could be bankrupt by Christmas then they go and add another player to their wage bill.

If supporters had been allowed in from the end of October, there would have been 18 home league matches left. Split that in half, which would have meant Season Ticket holders could have paid for 9 games. In November to February four were Tuesday night matches, with Southend, Leyton Orient, Cheltenham Town, Port Vale, so I would guess few paying fans would venture out, if they could watch the games from the warmth of their home.

Even some Saturday games, if the weather is utterly foul, then I guess a lot may think twice about venturing out. A lot of us have lengthy journeys and if City are ‘plodding on’ then the value of going may not be wonderful, given all the attendant hassle.

Nothing to stop City from a relaunch of Season Tickets with the i-follow package. They would seem to have the capacity in terms of spare seats to do so.

Id agree with the bottom part. Relaunch it and I am sure some would buy one who might not have done before.

My point was that being that blase about the number of potential deaths is a dangerous viewpoint.

There are just over 66million people living in the UK and even a 1.3% mortality rate = 858,000 deaths

There are reports of the Government drawing up a rescue package for football if, as seems likely, no fans for at least 6 months.

Don't give up on them yet Fordy.

Fans are in the USA, France, Austria and other countries.

What we going to do? Just keep trying not to live with virus? I just don't get now when we know the data that we want to risk the economy and the future of the next generation. It's madness.

I gave up on Boris Johnson 6 months ago mate. He's utter sh&te. If people can't see that then seriously and I mean seriously they need to go into a dark room and gave their head a shake.

He's way out of his depth. Don't be fooled by his Yeah speech he gaves.

In terms of fans going to football. I said before he had no interest in that happening..NONE! I feel for the all clubs because that joker was pulling their legs and messing them about.

The government are only SEEING(Boris's words) what they can do to help. No rescue package as yet and doesn't mean any will happen.

From a business point of view, a relaunch with stipulation that any packages bought from now do not guarantee entry to the ground for any games this season if/when fans are allowed back in, makes perfect sense. Yes, people might continue to purchase games at a tenner a go, but if things don't improve on the pitch, those numbers will dwindle even further. Get the money in the bank now, and also consider an away package for the same reason.

There are people who would, for sure. Myself and my partner live far enough from Bradford that getting there is inconvenient, and a virtual season ticket would be the next best thing if we can't get to the ground until the very end of the season. It's something I've wanted for a while as I could only get to maybe one home game every six weeks.

With my partners health being suspect at the best of times, I won't return to the ground until the risk is negligible or a treatment is found. I'm not risking her health or that of my family and friends for a game of footie. This is why I didn't go for the Claret & Amber ST's.

As much as I dislike it, we'll have to hope our owner is benevolent; I'd like to think ours is, or we are managed well; hard to say that we are when we get done over Doyle & Vaughan style, or we able to sell, a hard ask when even clubs in the PL are starved for cash. Most clubs in the Championship and below are facing hard times.

    I hope we pull through.
