We don't need fan ownership, just an owner/s who actually wants to own a football club, a CEO who isn't just here because the owner knows no one else and a manager with a policy off the back of the above of playing forward thinking entertaining football.

Start from the top and work down. We might, just might start to go forward than back.

As far as I'm aware there are only 2 clubs in the EFL who are 'owned' by their fans - the Wombles and Exeter. Both do it via a small supporters trust (which avoids a thousand individual supporters arguing anout things they don't understand!) and in the case of Exeter, the trust still owns only a little over half of the shares.

The case studies on them suggest the arrangements run reasonably well. But both have had the huge advantage of owning their grounds in highish value areas which they've been able to turn to their advantage to date.

But both face the same pressures other clubs do and that's to rsise yet more money to improve the club's infrasructure, spend money developing their squads and invest in young talent. The Wombles for example are trying to raise yet more money fron a bond and it has some way to go before it reaches its target. The parallels with our club are obvious ... and we don't have a ground on which to raise some money!

@Dennis@Dennis is your man on this. From memory, it is financially hard to maintain the funding needed.

Fan ownership has only tended to work in the lower leagues, where there is less financial disparity between clubs. Other than that, it can be useful as a means of saving and stabilising a club, but its hard to see how a fan owned club could survive for very long in the higher reaches of the football pyramid.

Currently, I would say AFC Wimbledon are the most successful fan owned club in England and they seem to have hit their ceiling.

You’ll struggle to get 10k people paying £150 for a season ticket. How the feck will you get 10,000 people to pay £1000 each and then another £500 a year on top of their season ticket to fund the unrealistic signings they expect.

If I have a couple of grand spare, I’m spending it on a holiday, a guitar, a bike something I enjoy. There’s no way I’m throwing it at a load of shite footballers to play in a decaying stadium with zero chance of getting it back. I’d rather spend spend it in Vegas, at least it’s warm and I’m enjoying myself.
Investment implies the possibility a return. Buying and funding a league two football club is throwing good money after bad.

    No chance.

Just to name some of the issues:

    - Trouble getting the funds together
    - Difficulty sustaining the funds
    - Many disagreements
    - Possibility of some pulling out due to circumstances with no guarantee of people buying in

Yes, they is no money in football. I agree but currently this is lower league football and not everything is about ROI if brought in a group.

Look, I don't think getting the money together is the problem it's the continued funding you need to take it forward.

It's a non starter unless you can find heavy investment quickly. Salford City for example isn't 100% owned by the class of 92 they have a mega rich investment that owns about 51% of the club.

    It's a dream.

I have experience of commercial property and business purchases and dealing with a consortium or pension trustees is notoriously difficult.

My thoughts were purely along the lines of if we had say 1,000 fans all willing to invest around £10k to be a part owner in City, then that would give you £10million to attempt to broker a deal. I realise this is absolute peanuts for what is required but if we are going to exist hand to mouth under the current regime then surely it would be better to do the same under fab leadership.

The trouble is that this club, has a fan base which is either relatively poor/wouldn’t spend their brass if they were particularly wealthy. To find 1,000 who were willing to put £10,000 in would be incredibly optimistic. You are probably better having a go at the lottery, when the jackpot is over £10 million, more chance of that coming off!

Fan ownership in partnership with a wealthy backer or consortium could work with the right structure. It’s finding the backers that’s the problem.
Somebody like David Baldwin with his wide range of contacts would be a great front man if he could be persuaded of course

no chance. people baulk at paying the average cost of a season ticket let alone forking out a few grand for a vote share in a 4th tier club with no idea where they're going.

Only one direction we are going at present is further down the league.
