To answer @Fordy117@Fordy117 question of 'what is a good cup run', then this is where we are. In order to get to a fifth, or sixth round, you have to start somewhere. Shrewsbury is close enough, and the game is winnable - So let's do it .... COME ON CITY ....... :)

Play the strongest side and progress into Round 2. Winning is a great habit and won't interfere with any promotion aspirations. When you're winning, it's funny how any niggling injuries seem to fade away! The income from a good cup run won't go amiss either.

Poor draw for us. no doubt about it. I hope we'll play a strong side and give it a go but I expect us to exit the competition.

really pleased for the non league side that got the bye, though. that money will set them up for a couple of years, regardless of who they might draw in the 2nd round.

I was quoting Stefan so I have no idea what constitutes a good cup run in his mind. In my mind it means getting to Round 4 at least and if we go out there we go out to a big team with a share of good gate money and the prize money from Rounds 1,2 and 3. If we do better than that then great.
I was not including the EFL/ Leasing .com Trophy as I don't believe we will qualify for the later stages, the prize money until the end is not as great and we have already demonstrated what you get if you play less than your best team.

I see where Fordy's coming from. A long term injury to Cooke or Pritchard and you might as well write the season off until January. Not sure we can afford to lose Vaughan either with Donaldson out for 2 months so a balance between full strength and writing off the tie would be nice.

Shrewsbury away is a dull draw but it's winnable.

Last season we did the double over them! Hell,I hope
they remember how crap we were and relate that to
    themselves.

Also, this season they have had two home defeats,
3-0 and 4-0 so their defence needs work. Lets hope
we can win without any injuries and move on.

We couldn't have hoped for much worse really. They're a better team so should beat us at their place, especially given we'll rotate. It is miles away so costly to get to. If it had been at home at least you can hope to progress with the home advantage.

I was hoping for a York or Harrogate away from home for a nice local away day. York would have been ideal. C'est la vie.

Cooke probably wouldn't be allowed to play anyway.

Spot on, WW - I often think about 2013 ........... How MANY made that initial trip to Watford (2013 season) ? Certainly not the 30+k that attended the FINAL at Wembley. Further more, City ALSO gained promotion that season.....Again, at Wembley ;)
It makes you think, let alone get's the juices flowing, ha ha ha. Just as History has an end - It obviously started from somewhere ? ............ The beginning ........ :)

I think it's very much nailed on that Bowyer will pick his strongest available team for the Shrewsbury game. It's a Saturday with no league midweek game either side so no reason not to try and progress.

Bummer I was hoping for Solihull Moors, Stourbridge or Coventry then realised we had Shrewsbury. One of the worse draws we could get.

Fordy has expressed his opinion - it's dull and boring. No harm in that - he's entitled to his opinion. What I find a little bemusing is the amount of times he has to express it. There must be upwards of two dozen posts from Fordy on this thread essentially saying the same thing. Now that's the very definition of dull and boring.

No. The league is our priority, we put our strongest team out and try and get 3 points. Ideally we'd have the luxury to do the same in the cups but managers understand that injuries can scupper their league plans and therefore try to negate any added risk by resting key players during cup competitions. It's always been that way, particularly for lower league clubs who don't always have the added benefit of strength in depth.
