Its clear there's big backers at play with this extinction rebellion, its too well organised to be some off their tits hippies. The movement has always been there under the surface but have used the back of the black lives matter protests as a vehicle to step up their campaigns. The environment angle is just a smoke screen, its primarily aimed at capitalism. Probably an meritable argument there somewhere, but also a lot of hypocrisy. As with the black lives matter i'm not sure which side of the debate i'm on. Too many hidden agendas amongst what seems on the surface well meaning protests.

Fair points, how you do it in a world more and more ruled by global businesses i don't know. Bezos ain't getting richer by giving money away. A point in question, i've just been watching soccer aid where extremely rich people point out how poor people are treat like shit in poor countries. Massive adverts draped over the seats for companies like primark, England kit made by Nike, both companies using manufacturers with labour forces made to work for a pittance in squalid conditions. Maybe soccer aid could give some money to these companies to pay their staff a proper wage. The hypocrisy on show is strong my lord.

Funnily enough bezos is now so rich he could literally solve world hunger and still be a billionaire. This is why I'm so strongly against deregulation because I think capitalisms biggest flaw is it eventually will eat itself out of sheer greed if you dont have some form of restraint on it. so things like workers rights, separating investment and retail banking so the silly bastards are only gambling their own money away and ensuring public services stay publicly owned would be good starts in my mind towards making the system work for the working man a bit more. its also why i really hate when the left is characterised as workshy because most of my political beliefs are centred around giving ordinary people a bit of dignity and respect at work.

very good point on the england stuff, i think again its capitalist mission creep in a sense because they're essentially trying to profit from looking virtuous whilst perpetuating the very problems they keep telling us gloits watching on the telly are so bad. same with live aid and stuff like that, its much more about the people doing the giving feeling warm and fuzzy than anything else.

You have a laugh mate, it's by standing by and doing nothing why this country is in chaos through anarchistic behaviour, but never mind eh, it's not really happening....

Meanwhile, under cover of the pandemic, Cummings and Gove are quietly handing out government functions to their billionaire friends, privatising the NHS by stealth, bypassing parliamentary scrutiny, centralising everything and attempting to destroy the neutrality of our judiciary and civil service. And everybody is standing by and doing nothing. These people are a much greater threat to our democracy, and will eventually lead us to far more chaos and civil unrest, than Extinction Rebellion.

I'm not sure i've known society like it currently sits. Feells like there is a deliberate attempt to start a war amongst each other, the old divide and conquer rearing its head. There a big international players pushing agendas and the ones suffering are at the bottom. Feels surreal but also worrying.

Extinction rebellion have a point but to go all greenpeace about it is not helping.

I think they are being reclassified as an organised crime unit by the Government. I guess that will allow the Police to wade in and beat the shit out of them for blocking the street etc.

Don't be disingenuous you just don't like people you perceive to be lefties. You don't really care about anyone selling newspapers its just a good excuse to wind yourself up and fume a bit.

Yes that's the entire point of the protests, to be disruptive so that people take notice of the issues around climate change. i think there's probably better ways of doing things but I completely understand the logic

You could be right, and theres probably some moral argument that warrants debate. But why do it here? Go to China or India where they are building over a hundred new airports or Dubai where skyscrapers seem to pop up every week. Little ole Britain is an insignificance in world terms when in comes to the alleged damage to the planet. Take nuclear power for instance. New power stations are in planning for all over the world but none here. Like i say, they probably have a point but not here.

A good point which i was going to mention, something that a lot of the protesters conveniently forget. A lot of those protesters don't look like they were dragged up on Ravenscliffe, a lot will have juicy pensions linked to exactly the sort of thing they are against. Depends which one they are willing to give up. Capitalism makes the world go round just as we are finding now. Without it not much gets done.

I have to agree. It’s not just the polarisation of opinion - there’s always been that. It’s the assertion of language, opinion and action that’s being so strongly pushed, and the consequence if you have a different view. Agreeing to disagree in a civil manner, with open discourse seems to be a thing of the past. Debate is now almost entirely emotional rather than objective. And its the militant behaviour of people who are genuinely, actively looking to see people lose their jobs, be criminalised, be persecuted if they have different views. Even on football forums, I’m aware of cases of people contacting the employer of other posters, because they find their opinions and language distasteful - I’m not talking about anything criminal, I’m talking about the finding of offensive language or different tastes in humour, a reason to have someone sacked.
