Blake gave us a genuine profit though, i.e. one of the few strikers we've bought for less than the we sold him.

But yes Mills is a good shout as he played his best stuff for us - which made a change for a striker!! Not only did he have his best scoring ratio with us, he became rubbish when he left us (personally I thought it became rubbish after the promotion season!!) Amazing that we loaned him to Manchester City of all clubs, i.e. letting them have our cast offs, how the times have changed

And under the "we buy good strikers and make them crap and then they leave and become good again", yes, Windass is another exception to this 'rule' :)

So I suppose we're not the bad. Not many lower league clubs produce a striker who goes on to revel in the top 2 divisions, say more than once every ten years

Have to agree. Loved Parky, but his eye for a striker was definitely a weakness. It's probably the system he plays, which we sometimes do under Bowyer (although I'd argue when we bother to play it on the deck, we look quite good for L2 of course!!) that isn't conducive to developing a strikers career, unless there happens to be a perfect fit - Hanson and Wells

Never forget how McNulty did OK for Sheffield Utd and Portsmouth (on loan) came to us and did nothing and has since gone on to score for Coventry at more than a goal every other game!!

Wasn’t the issue with Vardy that we couldn’t afford him at the time? Pretty sure this was discussed in depth on C & B. We were skint at the time, as it wasn’t long after the problem of having Graeme Lee etc on big contracts. Fleetwood were being bankrolled up the leagues and we didn’t stand a chance.

Agree with you re Hanson and Wells.

Yet he's struggling at Championship level with Reading hence his loan to Sunderland.

Like at the moment I think it was down to the midfield, although it was a much better midfield back then. McNulty and Hiwula before him would make run after run into space, while Law, Cullen and Mezza played keepball and made pretty little triangles. Our current midfield can't even do that

Better our player than current top of the leagues. I think they struggle to sustain it without him. Simple as that. Happily see them fall away whilst we climb, better chance of that happening if they don’t have Doyle.

I can't disagree but consider him scoring against our other rivals as he has done so far this season including Plymouth last week
We have played them twice now and can't affect each other there are 3 autos to play for and his goals could in a twisted way help us
It's quite a conundrum and only time will tell if we make the right decision
I do hope that if he stays at Swindon we stop him playing against us should we both reach the play offs that would be too much to take

Vardy was sold by Halifax when Jacko was manager of City and he and Lawn went to watch him .Halifax then got 200k from Fleetwood ,we were totally skint at the time and talking of going to Odsal so no way we could have afforded him. Gregory however was one we missed out on, he was scoring for fun at Halifax and we had just sold Wells but unfortunately went for McClean instead.

No brainer ,bring him back weaken any competition and whore him out to anyone who will stump up what we want.

We won't get anything out of him, we can take a hot form striker and turn them into a no goal machine.

However if we get some cash for someone who has benefitted more from our wages than we have from his performances, someone with potential I'd take that above a half season wonder who doesn't want to be here, this is his purple patch we missed it Swindon managed to benefit but it's a busted flush let's take the cash and gamble in another hand

I'd rather pay him to sit at home rather than strengthen a competitor

We had agreed a fee with Halifax for Gregory but couldn't (or didn't want to) meet his personal terms. Baldwin said he wanted £10k a week to join City!
