I honestly think its the players that have taken Southgate as far as they can.

The tactics in that final last year, in front of a Wembley crowd were deplorable. If you take the lead 2 minutes in you stick to your game plan, 0-0. Acting like it was the 80th minute in the 3rd minute was ridicilous.

We did the same against Croatia.

It's a glorified friendly tournament and should be treated as such. The results are pretty much meaningless as we'll qualify for tournaments no matter how they shape out group.

Literally, the only important thing is that no players pick up any injuries. Barring that, there's very little interest.

 

Good, he should have rested all the other potential first choice world cup players too.

Absolute nothing game and nothing tournament that should feature purely our second or even third string players.

 

That is what I meant, he should have rested them all and sent them on holiday. It is close season, should have used it to blood some kids. Not sure if the scheduling is due to delay with Euros

 

The man got the job when the national team was at its lowest ( Hodgson ) so anything even the slightest improvement was always gonna work out well for him .............. but the Croatia game for starters was bad but to repeat the same tactical trick against Italy was even more unforgivable.............. sadly you know what coming in Qatar we will go deep into the tournament and yet again his tactics will cost us big time ............ as for last night being meaningless sorry we ain’t been battered at home by one of the top nations we are talking Hungary here ...............

 

Hopefully one that's reached a semi final and a final in his last two major tournaments then or perhaps it'll be seen as a significant downgrade.

No passion from yet another boring, negative England side so far tonight.

Never rated Southgate. Can appreciate what he's done off the field but as a coach he's average at best.

The strengths of this squad are in attacking areas yet we have a negative, defense obsessed dinosaur who encourages anything but. Its criminal.

 

Not fussed by the Johnstone Paint Trophy of International football. Should have rested the whole squad who have a chance of going to WC

 

Its not the equivalent though. It has barings on seedings for majors, qualification etc. These players surely want to secure their place on the plane.

That last night was an embarrassment with regards the England team performance, Southgate quotes giving fresh legs a game actually saying "I picked a team with energy" whatever that mean's, yet we seen the likes of Germany getting results with very few changes, poor excuse, we had lads on the bench who have not been regular starters for their clubs (Sterling and Grealish) so being fatigued is a poor excuse.
It wasn't the fact we got beat but the way we got beat with little effort with regards trying to get back into the game, Hungary couldn't believe how easy it was to break us down.

 

He picked a team with energy?

How much bloody energy do you need to constantly pass the ball from left to right across the back?

Boring boring tactics.

 

When you're representing millions of people it's never a meaningless game.

Club friendlies are meaningless, international friendlies / nations league games mean significantly more.

Once upon a time it meant something to represent your country.

 

Probably true. No point in getting injured in the international equivalent of the Johnstone Paint Trophy

 

So you'd be happy with us throwing the tournament and ending up with a terrible seeding in the Euros and a really tough group as a result?

 

Players like Saka aren't good enough.

If you're one of the front three in one of the best teams in the world, you need to be a goal threat.

Bowen has also been awful for England whenever I've seen.

 

Terrible performances from Gallagher, Phillips, Bowen, Saka and Guéhi, Germany getting into top gear now winning 5 - 0 against Italy a team we couldn't break down.
now 3 - 0 as I post shocking Southgate.
Add Walker to that list of crap performances.
