Pathetic how they keep going off every time they see a spot of drizzle.

Some fine bowling sprinkled with some shocking batting (Stokes, Roy) knocking over England for 67, joint second lowest score at Headingley. Feel unless, England can pull a rabbit out of the hat, that the series done for.

Awfully quiet on here lads. Any city fans at headingly? Great to see one of the worst Australian teams (in my lifetime) making easy work of England. Root looks out of touch and isn't the man to lead the team. Archer must be taken care of so he doesn't burn out, as he could potentially spearhead the attack for years to come. What's KP doing?

Our test batting is as awful as our one day batting is great. We seem to have forgotten how to defend and build a test innings.
It's certainly one of the worst Aussie batting sides I can remember. But your bowling is high class, as is ours. I can't remember a test series where the bowlers so dominated the batters (Smith excepted, obviously).

I think the bowling attack is Okay but would regard McGrath, Warne, Lee, Gillespie as high class rather than Lyon, Hazelwood and Siddle. Different gravy they were.

Yes, obviously they were one of the best test bowling attacks of all time. But Siddle and Starc can't get into your attack for this test. When Michael Holding describes it as a high class fast bowling attack then you know it's good. It's much better than okay.

Lack of effort from england, know what they have to do but dont apply themselves, shot selection has been shocking.
This team is burnt out and badly led by both captain and selectors.
Years ago playing the oz every 2 years was ok as there were not many other playing nations but recently new countries have entered the test arena and with 50 over and T20 and IPL and big bash it is cricket every month of the year and this northern hemisphere collection of dubliners/saffers/kiwi/west indian and a few tykes is not up to it.
New blood needed but quality is not there to compete with the warmer southern countries.
Need to produce fast bowlers and spinners, Wood and Olly Stone and Finn- see a pattern here?

Bowlers isn't our problem. It's batsmen brought up on limited overs cricket who can't build patient test match innings.

I agree, we don’t have one opening batsman, they are a walking wicket every time they step on the turf. They know how to play one day cricket, but have lost the art of building an innings if they ever played. I am also concerned at the amount of cricket they are playing. They just look tired The ECB need to have a bigger pool of cricketers. We need a different set to play test cricket. It is upsetting to see Joe Root hung out to dry. He is not a opening batsman, and neither is Roy, but because our opening pair are soon walking back, Joe Root has to come in, and he would prefer to bat at number 4. It’s a mess. Should he be captain ? probably not, experience s what you need and although an excellent batsman trying to captain a side that is not fit for purpose is a step too far in my view.

WOW. Test match cricket at its very best. Well done Ben Stokes, shades of Botham 1981 at Headingley

Wow just wow. Can’t dissect that sort of thing. And I thought Edgebaston was once in a lifetime in Ashes cricket.

That equals and probably transcends Headingley 1981. Botham Ashes. Never thought I would see another. Always expect magic Headingley

The botched run out; the daft legside review; the dropped catch... makes it all the sweeter.

    Incredible knock.

The promise of a "flower beer" is still alive.

Insane knock from the kiwi born Stokes, what a summer for him.
Barely played a shot when supporting Root yesterday and took it to the oz when all seemed lost today.
    Ashes still to play for.
    Just.

I said they would regret taking that review on what was clear to everyone it pitched outside the line. Stokes was clearly out, but umpire didn’t give it, and no review left;);)

Forget about the review. Lyon should never play again after that! ;-) Great knock by Stokes, showed that he really is a class batsman. Smith back in the nets after his concussion, fingers crossed he will be right for the 4th test and we can finish what already should be over.
